"Not my fault?" - I'm afraid it's entirely your fault. Yes, there may have some mitigating circumstances but the responsibility is wholly the owners to ensure their car is taxed and if they are the registered keeper to ensure they have the log book.

Why is every single thing that goes wrong always someone else's fault?

It is entirely your fault, you may have been told one thing but as registered keeper it is YOUR responsibility and your alone to ensure that your vehicle is legal and roadworthy.

What can you do? Pay the fine, and ensure that anything that occurs in the future that is your responsibility, you do it so you are not back here in the future blaming your mistakes on other people.

Pay up and move on - you have been driving without VED since June 2017 or December 2017 or June 2018 - so the additional £100 is probably back tax.

But I thought it WAS taxed. How could I have known it wasn't?

Very easy! Enter your registration number and the magic interweb tells you everything.

But why would I do that when as far as I was concerned, my vehicle was taxed for 12 months? Do you perform that search ever?

Its ok op, We all make mistakes and life gets in the way and things do get forgotton about, in this case i would just pay up and then contact EH to see if they are willing to pay you something towards the fine, if not then just put it down to an expensive mistake that will make you diligent in the future

I understand why you trusted EH to do as they promised afterall they are a well established business that you thought you could trust but ultimately it is your responsibility
People are caught up in an egotistic artificial rat race to display a false image to society. We want the biggest house, fanciest car, and we don't mind paying the sky high mortgage to put up that show. We sacrifice our biggest assets our health and time, We feel happy when we see people look up to us and see how successful we are”

Yes. I don't want to be pulled up by the fuzz at 2am on a Sunday morning for no tax, even if it is a mistake. Just like I regularly check AskMid to make sure I'm showing as fully insured.

And you are proof of why drivers should check their records!

Can you please clarify when your car was clamped for being without tax?

I check every time I tax or MOT the car, and as others have said, I check the insurance status as well.
It's the driver's responsibility to make sure those things are in place.
It's about not wanting to get pulled.
