Harassment at work

Well that certainly isn't a judgemental post.westbridgfordguy wrote: »As a general observation not directed against anyone in particular I've never come across a more judgemental group of posters whom luckily are in the minority.
I blame myself for inviting this by posting on here which is a shame for all other reasonable posters looking for balanced, constructive advice and may put people off posting on here at all.
I think you are confusing "advice I like" as being the same thing as "balanced, constructive advice". There's no doubt a reason why so few people posted "balanced, constructive advice". It's because many of us could see this train wreck coming.
You may not like it but if any senior manager can't handle pictures of animals or an infantile joke out of hand, then I'd definitely be recommending that they suck it up and get over themselves. You are on probation. You have over a year and a half to get employment protection. Are you seriously going to make a big thing out of some infantile joking, and admit to your employer that they've undoubtedly employed the wrong person as a senior manager? Are you seriously equating some photos of kittens with harassment????? Get a grip lad. Hopefully you will never actually be the victim of harassment, but if you are I can guarantee it won't involve photos of kittens. Or ducks.
Have you never heard the adage "ask a stupid question, get a stupid answer"? It applies.0 -

if you ever feel the need to put someone on the ignore list due a post on here it shows your far too sensitive to be in any managerial position.
Any posts which are actually offensive are quickly removed from this forum. A post which says your no good at being a manager is nothing and it's almost certain at least one of your subordinates will think your a rubbish manager at one time or another and you can't put them on an ignore list!.westbridgfordguy wrote: »As a general observation not directed against anyone in particular I've never come across a more judgemental group of posters whom luckily are in the minority.

Exactly people are looking for balanced comments; so that doesn't mean comments that agree with you all the time!.
Your going to get a mix of positive comments and negative comments; as an adult a negative comment online from an anonymous poster who doesn't know you shouldn't bother you at all.0 -
My balanced, constructive advice is that this is an issue that a "senior manager" should be able to sort out themselves.
Do people regard you as pompous or unapproachable? How did you react initially when they first appeared? Do you think they are trying to convey a message (e.g. lighten up) or do you think they were intended to annoy you from the off?
Lots of ways of approaching this issue, so what was your initial approach?0 -
Op, get your own back by holding individual work apraisal meetings with the staff.0

You know its pathetic really, when your new to a forum and want to help those in need of advice only to see those seeking advice being belittled, shown disrespect and hounding by childish replies... Which in this case is people posting images of animals. Yes not in themselves offensive, but in the context of the situation the op discribe, said act is offensive. Its harnessing, which is criminal not just a breach of this sites rules. Have those responsable stopped to think about the ops mental wellbeing, given he's had to put up with the same treatment from people at his/her work place daily (I assume) for 3 months. Clearly not, you think its a joke. Well such jokes can have very serious life shatter consqueances to those suffering mental trauma or illness. And when I say life shattering, it includes loss of life.
The op is clearly at the end of his/her tether, which says to me they suffering mental trauma. And they have come here to seek help, most who do so, do so as a last resort or because they don't know who else to turn too. And I know just how serious the consqueances can be having spent over ten years advising people employment issues and law, along with on other aspects or law. And no, I'm not a qualified legal professional nor pertain to be. So I'm sickened at how some can belittle those seeking advice, or even question a persons capacity or abilities in regards to there role, especially when you don't actually personally know them, and simply going of your own biased and prejudiced assumptions, whilst holding the excuse of your actions as being a result of their previous threads, or believe that they not have the ability to do their job!
Now, op, call all of them into a meeting at the start of they day, tell them it is to stop now. Tell them it was funny to start with, but now its just annoying and childish. Also tell them if it doesn't stop, they will face disciplinary action for misuse of company email, stationary (interferring with personal safety equipment (sure you mentioned something about boots)) and harrassment. Whilst at same time telling them you don't mind a joke or bit of banter, but this has gone on for too long and has gone to far.. You'll find that will have the necessary effect and they'll actually respect you for it too.
Also if you are feeling mentally effected by what's been happening, or suffering low moods or low levels of self esteem or confidence or anything similar, give MIND a call, they can help and also look into steps on positive thinking, and mindfulness techniques. Both are great improving self esteem, confidence and depression etc. Also great if you not suffer any mental health issues too, if you ask me.0 -
Sorry nicechap, but you'll have to forgive as I don't get what it is you mean by "yet another AE returns"
Or are you referring to books for as publication who publish educational books for for 7-12 year olds. I must admit, I'm not surprised in the slightest that you know about them too, as children do find them very entertaining.
Alas my knowledge on law comes from actually researching it and spending hours reading actual legislation. Largely born out of desire to comply with the law, fully. but later out of desire to help people, after getting hooked from people simply approaching me for advice.0 -
Sorry meant to type ae publication, but autocorrect kicked in.0

You must have misread the OP's posts. I don't think anyone is actually putting a harness on the OP like an animal; they are just using pictures of animals
