I try and aim for ending on Sunday evenings between 8 and 10 as it always seems to get more last minute bids.

Generally a late sunday evening finish is good - When people are outbid, or lose an auction, ebay will display similar items ending soon. Peak times are around 6pm til 9pm, so aiming to finish towards that.

It's also worth considering the market you are targetting - think about sports events or TV programmes that your target buyers may be distracted by, so aim to avoid them. Baby & Children clothes tend to peak in the early afternoon, before the school run starts, and I have sold more than a handful of BIN's after pub closing time, and many sent to "The Security Dept" of large organisations. I guess night shift guards have time on their hands to browse the net!

The best time is when no one else has the same thing endind around the same time.

As has been stated sunday evening is supposed to be good. But if everyone ended their items between 8-10pm on Sunday over supply would soon drive down prices.

Do some research into when and for how much other items have sold for.

The converse is also true, if you end an item when similar items (provided they are fairly popular) are ending then you will get bidders on various items. If yours is last in a block you'll get all the missing bidders on the earlier items!

That's not to say the original statement is false, it is just a matter of research and trial and error. If your item is wanted and popular enough you can put it in an incorrect category and finish it at 3am on a Wednesday and it would still get bids.

There's a traffic report somewhere on when sites have most hits. I use an independent hit counter for my own listings and there's a general trend to when people are on line, ie weekdays its early evening and then later evening (when they get home from work and after they've eaten/watched telly, etc).

If you want you can go into deep research and work it all out and then you're guarateed to be wrong!

Best way to research is completed item search for similar items to yours and see when they sold at the best price and the time that ended (bear in mind starting price is also a factor as is postage and terms of seller!)
    .
  • I remember reading somewhere Monday lunchtimes between 12-2. The reasoning was poeple would buy something to cheer up the "Monday Blues"

Never tried it myself, but would be interested if anyone has ny feedback on this.

Yes, i prefer Sundays as well.
  • I used to end mine on Sundays but they went quiet for me.
I now find Tuesday nights do best for me for some reason, seems to be the time i get the last minute bidders.
Other days i dont really seem to get the last minute bidders and get the bids early on

That brings in the question:- If a bidder has listed three (or more) popular items (ie they will all sell for a good price) ending at the same time which one do you bid on to get the cheapest?
  • I made the mistake of listing some things which would particularly appeal to American bidders and hadn't considered that the auctions would be ending in the middle of the night because of when i put them on.

Needless to say, no bids. Relisted and in a week the same items ended at £113!!!
Almost debt-free, but certainly even with the Banks!
