Hi all

Where the floorboards meets the wall behind my kitchen cabinet is a large gap, it is around 1.5 inches.

It is letting in terrible draught what is the best way to fill it in?

I was thinking foam, but I want a no mess solution. I was thinking to just fill it in with some rags or something, as I can't seem to find a bulky enough insulting material that I can stuff in the gap, they are all small strips designed for tight gaps.

Just take some of your loft insulation and use that. Pretty much anything will do it.

If it were possible to take the units out, I would have suggested some cheap skirting board with the thinest of squirts of expanding foam. But I suspect this isn't an option.

Grab yourself a roll of the cheapest loft insulation you can find (or nick a bit out of the loft). Pack this in to the gaps as best you can and roll the remainder out in the loft. A bead of expanding foam would be better and doesn't make too much of a mess if done carefully. The trick with foam is if you get a glob landing in the wrong spot, let it harden before trying to remove it. It will peal off most surfaces without too much difficulty if left to harden.
