Internal / ghost dual sim cards

Hi, does anyone have any experience of buying and/or using Internal / ghost dual sim cards? I'm interested in purchasing a device for my Nokia 7600. I know there are 2 types one that can fit 2 sims side by side and the other where you have to trim down the 2 sims so they fit in a metal holder. If anyone does use either type, I'd be interested to know. Also has anyone encountered any problems using them, i.e. switching from one sim to the other. Finally can anyone recommend any online retailers for these dual sims.

I think this thread would be useful to others as it can be a pain taking your phone apart, to switch to a cheap sim for texts or to fit a foreign sim while abroad.

Thanks,

I've used dual sim covers with a nokia 3310 and 6610. I found they broke very easily, but very good while they lasted. Either the clips to hold the sims broke, or they just stopped working after a while, which is why I think they are hard to come by in shops. If you can get them cheap they are worth considering, but not if they are too expensive.

There's been discussion here before that they could be unreliable. Several retailers have told me they stopped selling them for the same reason. There are apparently other versions in which several SIMs details can be read and stored on one SIM, but these too are fraught with problems. Many newer SIMs cannot be read anyway, and there is a risk of destroying the original. Frankly I wouldn't bother. Find one of the others reasonably cheap and when it fails put it down to experience and carry two phones.

ive found them to be very unreliable as well, also some phones will accept them but sometimes the same model with different software wont?
this is certainly true with the 6230

I bought a dual SIM holder for my old Nokia 3510i off Ebay. It was only a couple of quid and works a treat. It even has a switch on the back to let you "hot swap" between the two SIMs. It is the sort that holds two full size SIMs (ie no trimming required).

Can you position the switch outside the phone? That would be quite cool. So there is no rebooting between hot swaps? What about the info on the sim cards? If you had 2 phone numbers on the 1st sim and 5 on the 2nd how would that work? Would it just keep the info from the first simcard?

I think you'd only have the info from the sim in use. You could store the numbers on the phone of course (unless it's Nokia 3310 or so)

I have used one in a 3310 for more than a year.

Just switch off then on again to alter networks/sim.
A friend has one for a 110 which is also great.
    No problems.

Yep, the switch is already on the back of the phone - the dual SIM holder actually replaces the back of the 3510i with a modified, slightly larger back which holds the 2 SIMs. When you flick the switch, "Insert SIM" appears on the screen after a few seconds and then after a few more seconds, the other SIM becomes active and it just behaves as normal. You can only use phone numbers stored on the "active" SIM so if you want numbers to be available to both SIMs, you need to store them on the phone itself.
