The link doesn't seem to work.

As an example, a small parcel that would cost £2.80 in the UK costs £5.50 to a BFPO address. For a high value item there could be enough margin to cover this, but for a low value product it could mean going to the trouble of sending something for nothing or in some cases losing money.

It's all very well supporting the military, but if sending parcels is more expensive who should be paying for this?

Welcome to the costs of doing business, if you offer free postage it is a business decision and the costs of postage should be factored into your price. But you are all talking about blocking people simply because they are in the military, or related to someone who's in the military, not acceptable.

I've just been on RM site and got a price for a 900g small parcel. Funnily enough, as expected, the price for UK & BFPO was the same.

As above, there is no argument about RM prices it is accepted that the price remains the same.

However try looking up a parcel of say 3kg where your usual courier will take it for less than £3 but will not deliver to BFPO.

I also went to the RM site. If you go here to get a price

    https://www.royalmail.com/price-finder

You can choose from UK, Overseas and HM Forces Overseas. If you click on HM Forces you get the higher prices that I quoted in an earlier post.

    When do these prices apply?

For a 2kg small parcel the site quotes £5.50 for the cheapest service which is the same as UK first class, but within the UK that parcel could be sent second class at £2.95. There is no equivalent cheaper option for HM Forces.

Prices are identical for the same services. It is just that there are additional services available for inland

As a regular ebay buyer... Why do so many sellers insist on using couriers and not RM. Royal Mail is cheaper and easier for the receipent. The amount of hassle I've had with couriers trying to deliver parcels, I now avoid sellers where I know they won't be using RM.
