I was in a monthly meeting with my manager and team leader (i am a assistant team leader).
My manager said in the meeting i will be doing your appraisal friday.
I see on your CV that you have passed a Managers course (his actual words) he then said who are you trying to kid if you have passed bring it to your appraisal friday (he said this in a aggressive tone)
I brought it in on friday and gave it to him in my appraisal and he started shouting at me get out i replied firmly no he just stormed out and reported me.
I have never upset anyone i have never gossiped about any one.
He reported me to HR i told HR how he spoke to me but he denied it.
It upset me as i worked hard on a part time course night college after work for 3 years 4 nights a week and he accused me of lying.
Then he was waiting for a new company phone he said where is my phone it came today i know it`s here and you signed for it but i never signed for anything that day.
I told him it has not come and i have not signed for anything he belittled me again shouting infront of the staff.
Then a few days later it arrived i passed it to him i said this has just came from the post i signed for it he belittled me again saying i know you hid.

Have you worked there for more or less than 2 years?
Your only option if you want to stay there and take it further is to start a grievance. If you are a member of a union you should approach them for advice and support.0 -
You could also ask for another meeting, explain you seem to be upsetting him, and ask what he needs you to change.2021 GC £1365.71/ £24000

I think starting a grievance maybe the best option.
Everything i do is wrong he emailed me asking to do a certain task first its very important.
Then when we do the task first he comes belittling why are you doing that task first i never told you to do that first (when he did) he tells HR that he asked me to do a different task first (via email) when he never.0 -
You need to keep a diary, keep all his emails etc etc.
Then stay calm and keep the moral high ground.
What do HR say when you speak to them? How does your team leader react (it sounds like the manager is effectively undermining the team leader)? No longer a spouse, or trailing, but MSE won't allow me to change my username...0 -
With the best will in the world, unless you have two years employment, and possibly even if you do, get another job. What will a grievance achieve? HR already know about this - regardless of whether he denied it, if they intended to do anything at all, they'd have done it. If your team leader was going to back you up, they'd have done it. It's a grievance going to do anything more than make you more of a target?0

I don't disagree with your advise, in a situation like this the best thing to do is get out.
But would you be advising that to your union members in this situation (assuming they had two years service)? Just curious0 -
Regrettably, unless we had power in the workplace, then yes I would. People seem to think that they are legally entitled to respect and good treatment in the workplace. They aren't. There would be almost nothing we could do. If the OP was a member of a union with power in the workplace, they wouldn't be here discussing it. Bullying is not in fact unlawful in workplaces. Any claims would have to fly on the back of something else, and they aren't easy to win.iammumtoone wrote: »I don't disagree with your advise, in a situation like this the best thing to do is get out.

Unions have the strength of their members. In the absence of law, which often lets people down, only the collective power of the members has any chance.0 -
This manager sounds exactly like the one who decided to dismiss me for performance related issues when my role is not performance related.
He is an absolute bully and cares not about company procedures.
It looks like your boss is leaving a trail of evidence for you to use against him.
Print out all the emails he sends you with regards to what work he wants you to do first, so when he belittles you, you have the evidence to take to HR when you raise a grievance.
Btw, you still haven't told us how long you have worked there.0 -
Did the manager only become this way when your qualifications came to light? I'm thinking a bit of insecurity might be manifesting as aggressiveness? I'd ask for a meeting. Stay calm and talk it through. If you can't work it out between you then speak to HR. Keep a record of exactly what is said and when. Unfortunately these situations can become one person's word against anothers.
Could you ask to be line manager by someone else?0 -
Sorry about the late reply I have worked there since 2014 HR and my Team leader interviewed me for the role and gave me the job normally the TL does our appraisals.
I just want to do my job and get along with everyone.
On friday my manager approached me and asked me to come out of the KPI as he needs to get in the system.
I told him i am not on the computer it is off i was sweeping he went to his office then 5 mins later was shouting at me (infront of the staff) get out the KPIs i will not tell you again.0
