Carphone warehouse upgrade
Hi all,
Just need some advice on a recent phone upgrade I made.
I upgraded via Vodafone through the Carphone Warehouse (CPW) on the 29 October 2018. They gave me my new phone on the day and I have been using it ever since.
The problem is my new plan isn’t showing on my Vodafone app. I contacted Vodafone who advised they have not received an updgrade request and advised me to contact CPW.
I’ve contacted CPW multiple times now to try and get this resolved, they advised there was a failed upgrade connection. They really don’t seem that bothered they just said wait 5 days and it should work. I will wait another 5 days.
What do you think I should do,? If nothing has changed in 5 days? Should I chase it up with CPW? Which is costing me money on my contract or shall I sit back and wait for them to contact me with a resolution?
Thank you,

The problem is my new plan isn’t showing on my Vodafone app,
CPW salesmen are only intent on selling new contracts, often in the form of expensive 'upgrades'. They don't have much time to rectify any negligence in the processing.
It's probably too late now, but being sucked into a new 'upgrade' contract by CPW, or even direct with network, is usually the most expensive way to obtain a new phone.Evolution, not revolution0 -
Thank you for your reply. Is it cheaper overall to let the contract expire and then updgrade then?
I’m double checking with Vodafone as we speak to make sure I’m not paying two bills.0 -
Just spoken to Vodafone and there’s only one contract/line under my account/name.
Should I just hang back for now?0 -
So it's the new plan that is not running? Only the old one, or what? Is the original SIM in your new handset?
You could wait the five days, but with CPW it's not wise to rely solely on what they tell you.
Be prepared to raise a formal complaint as soon as it's obvious they are doing nothing to sort it out, although an LBA (Letter Before Action) may be required to actually get their attention.
It's cheaper overall to completely avoid the 'upgrade' pitch - at the end of a contract's minimum term change to the cheapest SIM-only plan for your usage requirements. If you want a new phone, buy it outright SIM free.Evolution, not revolution0 -

Contracts don't expire, they reach the end of their minimum term, you will continue to pay unless you cancel it
As said above, don't rely too much on CPW doing it for youEight out of ten owners who expressed a preference said their cats preferred other peoples gardens0 -
Yes the new plan has not activated, I was not given a new sim. I was told to continue to use my original sim.
The original sim is now being used in my new handset.
Yes I’ve gathered that after reading forums, I’ve never had a problem with them bar this incident.
I’ll wait 5 days, if no progress is being made I’ll write in a formal complaint.
Again both of you thanks for the advice, much appreciated.0 -
Or you could wait and if nothing happens give notice to the network to terminate the old contract. Get a sim only or PAYG sim to replace it, or transfer the number after requesting a PC.0
