catch up/wifi problem

Every few days my access to catch up disappears. Message says that I have no wifi. I also have an ethernet cable connected so no wifi shouldn't be a problem, should it ?
I have to disconnect sky box and router then turn on again.
What could cause this ?

A weak WiFi signal? Do you have WiFi built into the Sky box, or the extra little box? What does the Sky box say the signal is like when you are connected. What channel is your WiFi on, and what channel are all your neighbours' WiFi on? There could be interferece. WiFi Analyzer (yes, with a 'Z') on Google Play store, on an Android phone or tablet, will help you walk around the house and see what WiFi networks are around, and what channel they're on. Ideally, you want to be 2 channels away from another network. IE if you see a network on channel 5, you don't want to be on 4 or 6, nor 3 or 7.

thanks. Yes have the little wifi box, but also have an ethernet cable plugged in. Signal normally shows at 3/4s. Just really annoying

Turn off the wi-fi on the sky box/adapter - ethernet is (usually) better anyway

Doesn't plugging in the ethernet cable disconnect the wifi anyway?
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

mmmm don't know. The lights are both on, on the little box attached to the sky box, so if the ethernet cable is plugged in at the same time, you reckon the ethernet takes precedence ?

Using both will surely cause confusion. If you can use ethernet, remove the WiFi.
