At that price, you would have to accept compromises - usually the quality of the display. The Wirecutter is a great source of independent reviews, although it is US based, so exact models may not be available here. See here https://thewirecutter.com/reviews/best-chromebook/0

I have an HP Chromebook 14 and I would recommend it if you can find it for under £200.
The only thing it doesn't have that would make me reconsider is the ability to run the Google Play Store on it although in theory that is coming eventually to all chromebooks.0 -

I purchased a refurbished ACER Chromebook R 11 CB5-132T 2-in-1 from the Argos eBay site earlier this year for less than £170 and have found it to be simple to use and does all the basics that I generally need on a day to day basis. They haven't got any at the moment but the one I received was "as new"
I recommend that you get a Chromebook with 4gb of ram and at least 32Gb of storage otherwise you may find that it struggles at bit performance wise once you have a few tabs open.
My model has a 11.6 inch screen (of an OK quality but not exceptional) which folds right back and means that you can use it as a large tablet since it has a touchscreen. I also use a wireless mouse when in keyboard format but the touchpad is ok.
I don't use it that much at home but do so when I travel. It also gives me a backup device should the next Windows 10 update mess up my laptop (which, given recent reports, is very likely)!
Basically, Chromebooks are cheap and fairly basic in what they offer but are a doddle to use and you aren't constantly hounded to install updates.
Hope this helps.0 -

Dont want old model, under £300,looking at curry's, argos as we only have them in our town.
Better you give me the £300, than to waste your money on nonsense.
£300 just to play around with Android applications? Get yourself a cheap Android phone and buy a decent laptop with a fast solid state drive with the remainder; https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Dell-Latitude-E7240-Ultrabook-i5-CPU-4GB-RAM-128GB-SSD-12-Touchscreen-/232902237137Get down to business with an Ultrabook™ that features a 12" display with touchscreen functionality and a beautiful design.
The thin (20mm) and lightweight (starting at 2.99 lbs/1.31 kg with a 3-cell battery) * Latitude 12 comes standard with sleek, durable aluminum, soft-touch finishes and a powder-coated base.
Underneath the surface is a Tri-metal™ chassis designed to survive challenging physical environments and MIL-STD-810G testing.
Along with Windows 10 comes touchscreen capability and a carbon-fiber-backed display with edge-to-edge Corning® Gorilla® Glass NBT™.
Try to find a Chromebook anywhere close to that quality, with a Full High Definition Touchscreen and a space for a SIM card, if WiFi etc is not available.
Hint: You won't find one, even for £1000 and that is for the top of the range Google Pixelbook; https://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/computing/laptops/laptops/google-pixelbook-00122-12-3-2-in-1-chromebook-silver-10171642-pdt.html
Chromebooks have long lost any advantage they had.
They aren't that cheap in comparison any more and Windows 10 also have a 'built-in anti-virus. The speed advantage is lost, as SSD technology has dropped in price, so now it's normal to have a solid state drive in a Windows laptop. So now they are much snappier.
In fact, a lot of the cheaper Chromebooks use an SD card for storage, instead of a proper 2.5" SSD.
Often you are just buying the cheapest of the cheap components and paying a premium for them.
You can also do everything you can do on a Chromebook and more. If you want you run Android apps, you can use Bluestacks.
Chromebooks are just a waste.
No need to be affected by Windows 10 feature updates, as you can defer them easily with Windows 10 Pro.
Don't waste your money on plastic disposable rubbish.0 -
