DACS/DAX on BT line, can I have broadband?

I have dial up with Orange but have been told that its finishing in December. About 6 months ago I paid £120 to have a new phone line and number installed as my old BT line was faulty (old house and old line) and BT couldn't fix it. I was quie mad about the fact that I had to pay for it but anyhow, the engineer told me that I now had a DAXD/DACS (?) Line which would have to be removed if i get bb.
I have a wireless laptop and I'd love to surf the net in my pjs in bed on a Sunday morning and hopefully bb would allow me to do this - however, how do I sort out/remove the DACS and who do I speak to? I tried ringing BT last week and was put on hold for 30 mins before I got peed off waiting. Is there somewhere in the UK that I can speak to a BT person, rather than abroad?
Many thanks
Una

The DACS will be removed when you place your order for broadband. There is some information on the process here

Yeah DACS units can only be removed when a broadband order is placed as DACS is only incompatible with ADSL.
It'll take longer than the standard 5 working days to provide the service on the line. Ensure that your ISP is keeping you up to speed on developments of the order. But be aware it could take between 6 days & 6 months! lol0
