Did I imply the past would repeat itself?

My illustration was that we faced difficulties then, as we will, no doubt, in the future.
If you want to big-up predicted future difficulties, that's your prerogative, but don't minimise real ones of past times you didn't experience.
  • Why does every thread have to end up in some Crashy Time discussion on housing bubbles? This is a discussion about work that needs doing to houses after you have moved in.

Possibly because he wades into many threads and twists what people say for his own ends. People like me take the bait, thus giving him more attention than he deserves. Mea culpa.:o

However, I believe Crashy's posts are symptomatic of a wider trend to disseminate as much worrying stuff as possible. It's much easier to keep a population docile when they believe they've little control over their lives. For me, it's no accident, "Take back control," repeated ad infinitum, brought us to where we are.

I'm not saying someone out there is funding Crashy, and others like him, but it's certainly possible. Social media reaches those who don't read the newspapers.

Well - it's a variant on the way I used to think (ie during the years I was a political activist) was that one either had to have a private income or, failing that, at least not have children. Having to earn an income that was dependant on other people and/or having children (aka you'd given hostages to fortune...) meant you were hog-tied from "saying your piece" to some extent.

No longer a political animal these days (basically...) and that's rather turned into "Most people hog-tie themselves - with a determination to 'fit in' - even if it means turning a blind eye to anything that's Wrong. They then turn round and try and make you 'fit in' with Disapproval when you objectively analyse what is going on around you".

The opposite of the sort of stuff the media used to be filled with as the bankers built their bubble, with full co-operation from the politicians and a gullible, and dare I say it, greedy public you mean?
  • Went to a chaps house who had moved up from England a couple of weeks ago

I mentioned that the heating is usually warranted in a Scottish house sale for 1 week and he should get it tested

A guy came and tested the boiler and found a few failures (he turned the boiler off)

As things stand the new owner should get much of the cost for the new boiler or repairs from the old owner.
    baldly going on...

Fair point, but by flagging up the obvious weakness in the market, and getting the seller to discount as much as possible people will have more money to actually fix the house up?

So many issues, mainly plumbing, must have spent a few £k on it - just really upsetting!

It’s not things that would come up on surveys just things like leaking shower units, boiler issues ahhhhh part of me really loathes the house!!! Just seems never ending....

Actually those would likely come up on a full survey but as those cost £1500+ most people just opt for the basic valuation survey and cross their fingers.

"Russians" maybe? The problem with social media is that everyone gets a say, and myths like "The property market is strong and not heading for a correction" can be exposed to the light of day and looked at from many angles :)
