O/S Daily Friday 2nd November 2018
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Morning everyone
Hugs to those that want/need one x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
DH up and gone to work stupid early, DS1 now getting ready also, DS2 still in his pit, will wake him shortly, he'll help with the shopping then head to the gym.
Cold and frosty start but forecast for a dry bright day - we'll see.
Dinner last night was fish, chips/jacket potato, beans/veg. Tonight menfolk will be having chicken, bacon and mushroom pie, mash, veg and gravy. I'll be having the chicken pie filling with mash and veg but no pastry.
Yesterday I was semi productive, I did get majority of the washing washed and dried, so not much left and not much to iron either. Will continue this today. I'll be heading to the SM to do the food shopping first thing, then I would like to try to get some cooking done, I need to use up some squash to make soup and also make a victoria sponge - I can't remember when I made one last! Hoover did get shoved over the carpets and bathrooms cleaned, so not brilliant but ok.
Keep safe and well x

Morning folks and thanks NMLC for the start.
Busy day yesterday. DD and I went, as planned, to the lovely big garden centre over the hill to look for something to donate to the hospice in Bob's memory. So much stuff but no luck with suitable bird baths. We ended up with a lovely bird table with a slate roof. DD ordered a little plaque to put on it. Then lunch was calling so we went in the restaurant. Once again we were disappointed. We ate it but won't be paying their inflated prices again. The food used to be really good too.
This was followed by a much needed big sm shop which took forever to put away. DB and SIL came up after tea and didn't leave till almost 10.00. I was shattered but I still had a poor night's sleep.
Another busy day in store. It's the end of the caravan season and even though Bob and I never got there once this time I have offered to help DD with the marathon job of packing the contents of the awning into the van and bringing home what won't fit in (big fridge freezer the main culprit) Her bf is going over tomorrow to take down the awning and cover the van and decking and put it to bed for the winter, DD and the girls haven't got there much either this time but she still wants to keep it going next year. I really can't see me wanting to go and stay there on my own. Too many memories of the good times we spent there. I am happy to pass the caravan on to them.
I need to pack up some lunch and a flask of hm celery soup next job, then breakfast so I am ready and waiting for DD picking me up on the way to the school run at 8.00!!
Have a good day folks and ((HUGS)) as always for all in need. Thinking of our dear HOLLY, POPPY, -TAFF especially. xx"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0 -
Good morning, and thanks NMLC for starting off.
It's cold and frosty here as well, but dry.
Nearly the end of another week, the time slips away doesn't it
I haven't any particular plans for today - possibly a bit of shopping, and the usual house jobs. My ironing has built up, I must at least start it before it becomes a towering pile.
I'll be going to a friend's house tonight, armed with wine - there'll be 4 of us tonight, quite a party!! We've been meeting on a Friday night for years now, it's just a nice relaxed gossipy evening.
Well, that's it really - thinking of the poorly and sad today.
Take care folks.0 -

Olliebeak Sorry, I should've been clearer – they were pushbikes, not motorbikes. It was near my house so I have nowhere else to goEveryone round here knows each other, or at least recognises each other, but I've never seen these three before. I've told a couple of other owners of nervous dogs so they can keep an eye out, I'll tell others as and when I see them so they're aware too.
Bozwood Nice to meet you!
We had a nice peaceful walk yesterday. I was expecting it to be stressy, if Scamp has a bad day he has a sort of 'hangover' from it the next day but he was perfectly calm.
Dentist this morning  I'm not looking forward to that. I'm trying to focus on the lovely stuffed crust pizza I'm going to have for lunch while watching an episode of a new (to me) show on Netflix

Good morning everyone :hello:
It feels like a Saturday because Steve has the day off today. It is his birthday tomorrow and his Mum and stepDad are coming to stay for a couple of nights. They have thoughtfully booked themselves into a local hotel so we are not going to be tripping over each other. I am looking forward to seeing them as it has been a couple of years since we last met. I am very lucky to have nice Parents in Law. We keep in touch through Facebook mostly as they are both deaf so I can't phone them.
In other good news, Phoebe got offered the job and she starts on Monday. Very exciting and we are all so proud of her. She is looking forward to earning enough money to pay for driving lessons. I can't believe how far she has come over the past year. More good news, Lee got accepted into college and starts on Tuesday. I do not know what I shall do with all my spare time, it's wonderful.
My doctor came to see me yesterday and has arranged for the district nurses to come and sort out my legs. I was quite startled last night when this great big bloke came last night and introduced himself as part of the Urgent Care team. He dressed my legs and was very very gentle despite being about 6'6" and built like a rugby player :rotfl:. I had a fairly comfortable night and the nurse is coming round today to check how they are doing. So thank you for all the nagging, I would not have had the courage to ring up if it wasn't for your support xx
The grandchildren will be here in a minute as they are waiting here before school starts. They will be over the moon that their Bampy is here as he is normally in work. Once they have gone it will be a general tidy up and the dogs will get a bath too and their stinky bedding washed. I don't know what time the parents are arriving but it will be good to get the living room sorted and tidy.
TA, the bird table sounds lovely, sorry the meal was so disappointing. Good luck with packing up the caravan, don't do too much xx
nmlc, thank you for starting the thread, hope your sponge rises xx
Hope you all have a great day whatever you are up to, take care xx0 -
Morning all
Mega frost here everything is white and OH will have to scrape the car, mine is under the car port so thank goodness no scraping for me.
Off to work for me Friday group are very needy and it always a hard day, there will be wine tonight. Something with chicken for dinner maybe a curry or summer in winter chicken which would be nice for a change.
I made a beef broth yesterday at work so that will go on my list of things to make at home as it looked very tasty, with lots of pulses in and lots of veg :T
Cleaner coming today so it will all be clean by the time I get in tonight.
TA what a lovely idea passing the caravan onto your dd, she and the children would love it xx
Have good days all xx0 -
Good morning folks.
Cold and frosty here, the upside was a beautiful overnight sky full of twinkling stars. I've been up for ages coughing, it's down to the woodburner. It's been on since Wednesday non-stop, I get the same reaction from central heating, my 'tubes' don't like too much heat.
My friend is heading to Gigha for the day. It's an hours drive down the peninsula and then a 20 minute ferry trip across to the island. He'll come back on the last ferry at 5.00pm, stay overnight and then head down on Saturday morning. There's a yellow weather warning from midnight tonight for all day Saturday.
I'm going back under my duvet, will take two paracetamol and hope to sleep some more.
Happy Friday to everyone.0 -
Morning lovelies
Well thats it I have just waved my friends off to the airport and my life is my own again. Its been a very full on week and we managed to squeeze every drop of fun out of the time we had but now I just want to curl up on the couch and not speak too anyone for a weekend
Yesterday they went round Morrisons with mum and she absolutely loved all the attention. Afternoon tea was lush then of course fish chips and peas for tea
Back to reality proper today after a very curt email from my accountant threatening a fine so will have to try and find everything i need to find and crack on. Working tonight too so no gentle easing back for me.
Hope everyone has a good day :A0 -
Good morning, it is bright and clear here and we are meant to have a sunny day.
Thank you for starting today's thread nmlc.
TA that sounds like a good addition to the hospice garden and perhaps when the time is right for you, you will feel ready to join your family at the caravan.
Dumpling, good news all round!
I have slept for 8 hours, I feel like a normal person whatever Obe of those is. Today I'm meeting an old friend for a walk in a local park. She has been unwell so instead of the walk that we often do, in the gardens of a local historic house, I've suggested this as it is a stunning park but just a small walk. There is also a tearoom and, big bonus, our local parks department has a small nursery there. They have plants for sale, really inexpensive and the plants tend to be very high quality. I must not buy any indoor plants, there is no room for more. But I think my friend will have room and will refresh her indoor collection.
I also need to go go the Post Office, that bit is not so exciting.
Yesterday I scrubbed the bathroom top to bottom and it is clean and sparkling. Sadly that is not going to last, but I know it is clean. I have washing going round as I type, that will be ready to go out soon.
Thinking of Holly, Poppy, taff, Snoozer and all those who are sad, unwell or worried. Hope CHS is doing well, and that the therapy offered will help his recovery.I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back0 -
Good morning all, another chilly start to the day here, 2C at present. Brrr. Like Gers, I feel like diving under the duvet again too, but I have a hearing test at 9.30am so I'm up already.
TA, I can visualise your bird table and what a wonderful choice. The slate roof is beautiful and durable, and offers shelter and protection for the food and the birds. It's good that a plaque could be ordered at the same time.
Well I just haven't been able to get on with the cot blanket for my daughter and partner's impending baby. It just wasn't sparking joy. By chance I saw a kit for a blanket online which had the joy factor, and the missing ingredient was colour. I can't do links on my phone, but for anyone who's interested, it's the stripy blanket kit on the Black Sheep Wools website, knitted in lots of small balls of their Aran yarn. It's not specifically a baby blanket, but will knit up quickly and do nicely. Problem solved!
Scarlet Ribbons, you were asking what I think of the Instant Pot. As mentioned above, I have a hearing loss, and bought the Instant Pot to get around having to hover to either watch for the hiss (my original Prestige pressure cooker) or with my more modern manual pressure cooker, watch for the red lines on the pressure indicator. With the Instant Pot, it comes up to pressure with no need to monitor it. So I can walk away and do other things, it's a real time saver in that respect.
I haven't used it as a slow cooker yet.
The other plus is the stainless steel pot, no non stick lining is a big plus. You can saute in situ, but I prefer to start off sauteing on my ceramic hob, then move the stainless steel liner to the Instant Pot, because I'm a shortie and it's less of a stretch for me. It was a good investment for making life easier for me.
Wishing everyone the best day possible. xxx0 -
