Beware of Tenerife airport "duty free"

A couple of weeks ago in Peurto de la Cruz we bought our Honey Rum to bring home, it was just under 6e for the 1 liter bottle.
At the airport it was over 12e for the same one liter bottle.
We bought ours from Bazar Asha Dodani on Calle de Cologan near the church.
Avoid the shop near the front called Amber, last year the charged me 3 times for one purchase, £130 in total which the Halifax refunded to me after a few weeks. I have now cancelled my "contactless" Clarity card and got a new chip and pin one.

I presume this is the South airport?
I found it to be dearer than our local supermarket for many goods.0 -
Not just Tenerife South but virtually every airport.
I hardly ever buy anything at airport duty frees (unless I have some currency I want to get rid of). It's almost always cheaper in local supermarkets.0 -

Far cheaper in shops around the town.
I think these outlets are state owned (not sure) - it appeared their prices were to offset the Greek national debt !!!0 -
And it's not just Duty Free.
Food and drink is often a rip off at airports. Dalaman is notorious for ridiculous prices. We get our hotel to make us up baguettes to take to the airport. Unfortunately with drinks they have a captive audience.0 -
The only country I've found duty free worth buying is Norway - being outside the EU it's actually duty free and the duty on alcohol is quite high.
Everywhere else I've been recently it's significantly cheaper to buy in a local shop or supermarket. Bangkok used to have some bargains but they seem to have gone now that King Power have taken over the duty free.0 -
I've found that World of Whiskies sometimes has good deals compared with anywhere else in the UK, plus if you're buying the duty-paid items (i.e. not the ones that say "only for non EU destinations") most airports with a WoW will keep the bottles to pick up when you return so you can stock up without having to carry them with you while you're away.
For example, Ardbeg 10YO is £46.39 for 1l at WoW. The cheapest UK retailer I can see from a quick search is Amazon which is £37 for 70cl, which works out at £52.86 per litre.
It's almost certainly cheaper in a French supermarket though... and maybe cheaper still in other European countries.Let's settle this like gentlemen: armed with heavy sticks
On a rotating plate, with spikes like Flash Gordon
And you're Peter Duncan; I gave you fair warning0 -

Yes, I was in Dalaman airport a few months ago and thought that I would spend my remaining Lira on a beer and a sandwich in the bar. It turned out that around £10 worth wasn't enough.0 -

I will agree with that, went many years ago and would not pay the asking price for a beer even though i had turkish lira left and was not sure when we would use it again.0 -
I take 2 x 100ml clear plastic bottles (sold in travel packs at discount chemists etc.) filled with double concentrate orange squash on holiday, one for each leg of the journey.
Then buy a bottle of water airside and decant the cordial into it - gives a nice fruity drink whilst waiting for the flight, and onboard.0 -

That's a good idea and some airports now have water fountains too. Not sure if Dalaman is one though. I was last there the day before the new terminal opened in July but I wouldn't have though they'd have water fountains as everyone drinks bottled in Turkey.
Some of my friends who don't like plain water carry these with them:
