O/S Daily Thursday 1st November 2018
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Morning everyone
Hugs to those that want/need one x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
Now getting light, but wet underfoot and raining - started sometime during the night and is forecast for most of the day, not so cold though.
DH up and gone to work stupid early, DS1 now getting ready for work and DS2 still in his pit, will wake him shortly, doubt he'll want to run this morning, he'll catch a lift to town with me and go to the gym.
Dinner last night was roast chicken portions - I had a fresh whole chicken and was concerned that if I cooked it whole dinner would be rather late, so I jointed it and cooked the joints was lovely, we had a use-up of LO's and some odds and ends from the cupboard, a few roasted new potatoes, LO mash, LO cauli cheese, LO yorkshires, brocolli, peas and gravy, DH had ice cream, I had persimmon and natural fat free yogurt. Tonight we'll be having fish, chips/jacket potato, beans/veg.
I lost half a pound at fat club on Tuesday - so just plodding along, I have a bowl of fresh fruit and nat f/free yogurt this morning, really enjoy it for something different and fruit needs using up.
On to today -
I'll be heading into town first thing, need to visit the building society and the bank, then home to tackle the "to do" list, all the normal stuff - just need to get as much done as possible, dirty wash basket is full, so will get a load in WM shortly. I'll have to TD everything otherwise I'll have piles of wet washing everywhere. I'm now on days' off until Monday - not working Saturday so can have a lie-in!
Keep safe and well x

Morning All
Thanks for the start nmlc, enjoy your days off.
Not much going on here, trying to stay warm and cosy! It was clear when I got up with a lovely show of stars but a fog has rolled in now, hope it clears in the next 5 mins!
DS1 coming for the weekend as he's between houses, not sure if the DGC are coming but will make up the beds tonight anyway.
Hugs to all in need, have a good day and take care. XX0 -
Morning

I'm glad you're seeing the doc dumpling xx
Three late teens/early twenties blokes rode their bikes onto the wrong side of the road and slowed down near us, one of them started barking(!). Scamp starts barking and I tell bloke that's not helpful, so another one joined in. Scampi is going mental by this time and the third one yelled that the dog is a nightmare and needs a good kick in the head. I lose my temper and threaten them back. They went quiet and rode off, so I think my point was made
I don't have any sign of halloween at my house but still got lots of callers. Scampi barked at all of them, instead of leaving people were squealing at the door then knocking/ringing again. I'm going to have to find a way of blocking the drive next year – must admit I was tempted to put a thin chain across it about a foot off the floor so everyone would falll over it
I have a bit of work to do today but first we'll be going for a walk. I'm taking my camera in case we come across those idiots again. Not sure what I'm doing later but I'm going to keep busy, I have a dentist appointment tomorrow and I need to keep my mind off it

Good morning all
Thank you for starting us off nmlc
Gentle hugs to all who want/ need them.
Didn't manage to post yesterday. DH had an appointment with the nurse for a review of his meds and care, what a waste of time. Think it was just to tick a box.
Take care allIf you walk at night no-one will see you cry.0 -
Morning folks. MIA yesterday as I wasn't in a very good place. I am still so up and down. Plus I had a visit booked from the lovely young co-ordinator at the hospice. Just to check how I was and to see if I needed any help. Of course talking about the funeral etc upset me even more. She is so understanding and just let me waffle on. As she said, 46 years together can't be forgotten overnight and I need time to adjust and start feeling better.
Anyway I had a slightly better night's sleep last night and feel a bit brighter this morning. DD and I are off on a mission to find something for the hospice gardens in memory of Bob. There are lots of seats and bird tables already at the hospice, many donated in a patient's memory, so we are hoping to find something different. I don't just know what! There is a lovely bird bath in the RSPB catalogue but it's not very big so a bigger version of that would be nice if we spotted anything.
My DB and SIL are visiting tonight. They are my only visitors who drink tea so I must get more tea bags whilst out and about. It's coffee for me (I have never developed a liking for tea, nor did Bob) and my other visitors also prefer coffee so always plenty of that in reserve.
Have a good day folks if you can and ((HUGS)) as always for the poorlies, sad or worried who want them. Thinking as usual about HOLLY, POPPY and-TAFF. DUMPLING I am pleased to read you have a doctor booked. Take care all xxx"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0 -
Morning all
Thanks for the thread nmlc and hugs to those in need.
We have a trip to the hospital today for physio, so CHS can practice stairs and other things that we don't have on the boat.
Yesterday one of his brothers visited as well as two nurses.
Psychotherapy is now being offered as he isn't coping well, I just hope it's local. He had talking therapy after his mum died, it was an hour's drive each way at 8 until 8:45 at night. Selfish of me I know but I struggle to drive at night, and it's freezing sitting in the car.
I need to shop today, hopefully there will be somewhere near the hospital I can shop.
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs HesterChin up, Titus out.0 -
Morning folks.
Frosty here, the sheep are blending in with the field.
My visitor arrived yesterday, so lovely to see him again. His dog is very quiet and nervous but was very happy to stand in front of the woodburner. :rotfl:At one point she was almost touching it.
One hallowe'en visitor who comes by appointment. There aren't any other small children here so no problems.
Guest and dog have gone off for a long walk. I'm going in the shower.
TA - I gave bare root rose bushes to a couple of bereaved friends (the Mary Berry one) which have blossomed so well. Every year I get sent a photo of them. Perhaps one for the memorial garden if there's space?
Right, happy Thursday to everyone.0 -
Morning all
Cold here this morning and looks overcast looks like a dreary day.
Off to work for me today and we need to make a huge batch of scones that someone has ordered which will keep us busy. I love Thursdays clients so should be a good day.
Pizza for dinner tonight with a few chips and a nice salad quick and easy.
We have made Evie a 'bomb' shelter for the fireworks which involves cushions on the sofa with her bed upside down on top of them and her blanket over the top, once she has had her 'Ritalin' and is in there she feels quite safe, I hate this time of year for the poor animals, its three surrounding villages including our own display this weekend, so it will be noisy !!
TA I hope you find something suitable for Bob's memory xx
Have good days all xx0 -
Morning chums
TA its very early days and the hospice lady was right 46 years is not easily gotten over. Be kind to yourself you have been through so much. :A
truIm with you on Halloween so went out insteadI did worry about mum though it will have scared her to have people knocking she needs a scampi
So yesterday we came home and the girls wanted to shop so we went off to M+S and Next. Goodness knows how they will fit any more luggage in. Went to the pub last night where the obligatory strange combinations came out last night it was pie and mash with a side portion of Yorkshire pudding :rotfl:
Today is their last day and whilst I have enjoyed every minute and we have made the most of every day I will be glad to get my house back and return to my normal mundane existence. Today I am treating them to banana day...cruel I know but they will be helping mum round MorrisonsActually they love a good supermarket so they are happy about it. After shopping we are heading for afternoon tea at a posh hotel near mums. Tonight the girls want fish and chips (and peas of course) from the chippy so we will have a fairly quiet night then they leave early morning tomorrow.
Im speaking to Holly tomorrow so will have another up date then
Have a lovely day all :A0 -
Good morning everyone, it was quiet here for Halloween, one of the advantages of having moved into retirement flats. That makes me sound like a grump, but in my previous home, I wasn't happy having unknown children come to the door. Totally different when it was kids I knew, they would do their party piece and I'd give them some goodies.
Last night for a Halloween themed meal I cooked chunks of a small pumpkin with olive oil, nutmeg, cinnamon and clove, salt and pepper in my Remoska and it was lovely. I'd run out of bacon, and will buy some today to grill and have with kale and the pumpkin tonight.
I had a blissful swim late yesterday afternoon, just 15 minutes but so good to be back in the water again.
Today I'll be doing some food shopping, and another swim late afternoon.
TA, what a lovely idea a d I hope you find the perfect item for the hospice garden. Hester, sending hugs. I hope that in view of CHS's health troubles that you're being allowed to stay longer term at your current mooring?
Thinking of all poorlies and carers, and any one challenged by loneliness. We tend to see less people once the clocks go back and everyone retreats indoors in the colder weather.0 -
Good Morning, Oldstylers  - brrr, it's a very cold start to the day and looks a though it's going to damp/drizzly all day
.
nmlc - thanks for starting the day off. Enjoy your next couple of days off work and enjoy that lie-in on Saturday :j.
camelot1001 - enjoy your preparations for your weekend guests.
tru - sorry to hear that you had such a bad experience with those motorcyclists. Poor Scampi must have been terrified. Please be careful, if they feel threatened by you, you just don't know what they might do. Can you change your 'walking route' to avoid them in the future? Love the idea of the 'trap across the driveway' - but I've frequently got a rather warped sense of humour:rotfl:. Wouldn't want to hurt any 'innocent youngsters' or 'older folks' - just enough to keep out those who won't be told 'not iterested'
!
silver-oldie - makes you wonder if these 'Health Care Professionals' etc have any clue at all, what the lives of ordinary people are about. They seem to think that 'their hours in the day' are more valuable than 'ours'. Can certainly do without that kind of visit to the GP Surgery at this particular time of year .
TA - Looking for something suitable for the Hospice Gardens sounds like a great idea - and something positive that you and DD can do together. Take your time with things and don't expect too much from yourself right now.
Hard Up Hester - hope all goes well at the Hospital today for CHS. Can you ask them to make sure that any appointments for Psychotherapy are made for during the day - surely they'll take his 'current health condition' into account when making the arrangements.
Gers - lol at your friends's dog with the wood burner - perhaps it's never seen any open flame fire before.
redruby - scone baking in a lovely warm kitchen, sounds exactly the kind of task for a day like this. Hope Evie feels 'safe' this weekend.
Nelski - enjoy your final day with your visitors - 'Afternoon Tea' followed by 'Fish, Chips and Mushy Peas' sounds absolutely delish .
Wee Midgie - good to see that there's some bonuses to 'Retirement Living' :T. Enjoy your swim later.
Offering ((((Healing Hugs)))) to all who need them - be especially kind to yourselves and keep warm.
I'm just about to get ready to got for 'Nathan sitting - Round TWO' - hope he's in the mood for taking down all his Hallowe'en stuff, though I've a feeling that much of it will be rather wet due to overnight rain. Definitely have to keep him off the roof today .
Spotted some rather good looking Ham Shanks yesterday, but they were marked 'Do No Refreeze'- there IS a specialist Pork Butcher in the market, so may check them out. Ideally, I'd like two that either haven't been frozen at all - or are STILL frozen - as I'm not sure when I'm going to be using them. The more I think about 'Yellow Split Pea Soup' and 'Shank Stew' the more I'm .
Have a really good Oldstyle Day - luv Ollie xx0
