Esure car insurance modification questions

Hello guys

My car insurance is up for renewal and Esure came out top the cheapest. As I was filling away, there was a question about my car, "Has your car been modified?"

I'm struggling which boxes to tick so I'm hoping someone can help me to tick which box. Is there a website where you can enter your vehicle registration and lists all the modifications?

It's a second hand BMW and I know it's not a basic model. It's the M Sport trims, Pro Nav, heated seats and probably a bit more.

I understand I have to tick A/C, locking wheel nuts, tinted windows - you know, easy questions but questions like engine transmissions, turbo charging and even lighting questions like driving lights, do I tick them or not?

I was hoping someone who owns a BMW (4 series Gran Coupe) and has insured with Esure can help.

Many thanks!

Modifications are changes made to the car after leaving the factory (unless original approved dealer options), not things which were simply variations from the basic model.

  • I've had good service from Esure but don't recall extensive questions like the OP lists; just asked if it is a standard car or has been modified.

    Me too.

I suspect the OP (wrongly) answered that it had been modded, which then popped up a list of supplementary questions.

Strictly speaking most insurers now view modifications as items added above the standard trim, whether fitted at the factory or not. So that will include added optional extras.

I did my search on a comparison website then clicked on the edit sections on Esure to make sure the info was entered correctly.

It was highlighted as no modifications but as I clicked on yes just to check what it was, it had all these options to fill out.

I have not purchased it yet but looking around, it looks like people have declared the additional as they do not want insurer to value the car as a basic model if they were to claim.

I've played around on which boxes I do know to tick and has brought the premium down funnily enough but obviously I want to be truth and honest when I'm applying the car insurance.

As mentioned you only need to declare anything above the standard M Sport trim, therefore not AC, locking wheel nuts but yes to Pro Nav, Window Tints, Heated and/or leather seats etc.

I can't imagine an M Sport hasn't got tinted windows. Most cars have tinted widows these days.

Side window tints are an option on most cars.
