  • If you use any tubes of products eg hand cream or hair gel, when you think it is finished, cut in in half and you will be able to scrape the rest out.

    RAZOR BLADES:

There is nothing scientific about this, but in my opinion multi blades often stop shaving you well NOT because they are blunt but because of all the hair that gets trapped between the blades, meaning the blades aren't touching your skin efficently.
After every shave I now run my electric toothbrush across the front face of the blades and across the back. It gets most (if not all) of those hairs out and I am definetly using each blade for days longer.

Try printing on 'draft', I find it quite acceptable, make the ink last much longer.

Awwww I was going to put that!

One for the ladies............. when putting foundation on make sure you use a damp sponge to put it on. You'll use a lot less (dry sponges will soak up the make up therefore wasting lots), and you'll get a better finish.

I put it on with my fingers, I always feel that it gets stuck into the sponge. What a waste!

Since the 1970's BIC have been supplying a 4 colour ballpoint pen to the likes of Woolies, W.H.Smith etc.etc. The top tends to be white and the barrel blue.
The 4 little sliders that push out or retract the "refills" are black, blue, red and green (surprise surprise). These pens sell for a little as 2 GBP for two.

The point is that it is fairly simple to take the pen to pieces, starting by unscrewing the blue barrel from the white top. The little plastic sliders can be levered out too.

So I carry one pen, that has never let me down by leaking in my pocket and refill it using the charity pens that get sent through the post, or using the cheap and nasty pens that employers tend to keep in the stationary cupboard.
The only down side is that if you leave such a pen lying about it tends to go walking.
  • I used to use shaving foam-but switched to oil, now when I shave I use an old toothbrush to wipe over my multi-blade razor to stop it blocking and it lasts 2-3 times longer!
  • :exclamati When using loo roll, help save the trees and use both sides.

On a more serious note, if you have a water meter use a butt to water the plants, and if you have a mobile phone and a car, charge your mobile phone in your car (as it's free!)

I'm sure many other people realise this but just in case....
I would like to point out that using electrical items in your car is certainly not free. Increased electrical load makes it harder for the engine to charge the battery and turn the alternator (which produces the electricty to charge the battery and therefore power all electrical items in the car).

So, bearing in mind increasing fuel costs, it would be interesting to find out if charging your mobile in the car by increasing the fuel consumption of your car is cheaper than charging it off the domestic mains.

My hunch is that it is not.
  • Want to get the most out of a nearly empty tube of toothpaste...or anything else for that matter? Lay the tube, with the top still on, on a hard worksurface. Hold a toothbrush by its head and press the handle hard down on the base of the tube, with the handle laying across the tube. Draw the handle up the tube without taking any downward force off. thus pressing every bit remaining in the tube to the nozzle end. If you do it right its as flat as a pancake.

Following on from the cutting in half advice - I always used to cut baby wipes in half as they are too big anyway for most jobs. You can make vinegar go further - if I remember correctly you top the bottle up when you get down to halfway with cooled bolied water. Only do this once though. It worked when I did it before - no noticeable difference - but I do use vinegar a lot for cleaning now and I am not sure it would work for that.
