I think they are really taking the ‘p’ with that offering for $35+tax per night.
There are lots of other hotel options in NY. I would be put off staying there given their money grabbing try on.0 -

Ouch! Not the "Square Deal" you might expect from the Roosevelt Hotel - perhaps a "New Deal", but not in a good way.
I'd certainly expect the gym and free (or super-cheap) local calls to be included as standard in a hotel in NY, not pay extra for them.
Being charged for wifi isn't uncommon, but whether it's worth it depends how much you need it in your room - and many hotels do have a low-speed service for free. And in midtown you can get free wifi in any number of Starbucks etc etc.
And you need to spend quite a lot on food for a 10% discount to be worth $35 per night!0 -
AA or BA? Depends on the plane.
With either airline, they are more cramming 10 seats across in Economy in a 777.
787 is cramped on both airlines at 9 abreast.
BA still fly 747s to JFK, which are less crowded than newer planes.
T8 (AA) Immigration Lines flow faster than T7 (BA). And T7 is in the middle of a refurb and the departures area is a bit chaotic.
Edit: last time I checked, AA allowed you to see what seats are available on each flight before you book, and select seats free of charge when you book. That would probably swing it for me.0 -
This thread is from last year so some of the figures might be out of date but it gives an idea

When we stayed last year we were given an up-graded room and free wifi included in the price, the package was a BA holiday booked thru Thomas Cook ( I am sure a company called Funway holidays was the name on the paperwork we got off TC ) and we did not pay any room/resort tax.0 -
Doubt it was a BA Holidays package as they do not sell via the trade. Sounds like a Funway Holiday, sold by Thomas Cook and possibly you flew with BA?
Some tour operators, because of their buying power, have negotiated no resort fees paid by their clients at certain hotels. Others may cost it into their packages. Could be one of these reasons from your last stay at the hotel, or it could be that the Roosevelt have recently introduced their resort/facilities fee.0 -
Sadly, more and more Manhattan hotels are introducing rop off "resort fees"
There is an interesting article here about a travel blogger trying to get his money's worth ...

The resort/facility fee of $35 is subject to tax (14.75%), so please note that price paid for this additional fee will actually be charged at just over $40 per night.0
