Cooling Off Period for buying New Build

Hi
I wonder if anybody can help me, my parents put £1000 deposit on a new flat (not built yet) on Saturday. The Sales Office plyed my Dad with drink (though he wouldn't have said no lol) and now my parents want to back out as they think the flat is too small. All my Mum saw was new shiny kitchen and bathroom and wooden flooring and as my Dad had had a few drinks he agreed to buy. It states on the info they have (though I haven't seen it) that the deposit is non-refundable but I am sure, well, pretty sure, that there has to be a cooling off period of 7 days though I may be wrong. Could somebody please advise? Any advice much appreciated.
Thanks

How was the deposit paid? Cancel the cheque? Despute the card transaction? Regardless if they gave your dad an alcoholic drink before he signed the contract would be thrown out by any sober judge.

It's ok to give someone a drink AFTERWARDS but not before the signing... otherwise they would have been deemed, as you describe it, to have plied him with alcohol.
Bankruptcy isn't the worst that can happen to you. The worst that can happen is your forced to live the rest of your life in abject poverty trying to repay the debts.
  • There is no cooling-off period in this case - it seems the contract was signed on business premises.

Did they force the alcohol down his neck? If not, then he was not plied with alcohol, he accepted an alcoholic drink.

As the OP says, his father was not forced into having a drink, therefore his only chance of getting his deposit back is based on the goodwill of the developer.
    Gone ... or have I?
