Only had one other group, 3 older girls in costume and scary makeup, another mum on the pavement. They thanked me and hoped I had a lovely evening. I think there were more about as I could hear kids giggling but I guess they didn't knock because I had no pumpkin out. Anyway, been a trouble free night. Those that knocked got a treat and I've got some sweets to scoff over the coming days. I wouldn't normally be buying fizzy sweets so it's a treat for me too!

I do love how people trick or treating are your idea at what is 'wrong' with society. Do please bring this up at your next council meeting, and demand change from your MP when the next general election is due. I'm sure it's extremely high on their priority list, right next to actual crime.

No, I meant people like you that expect others to tolerate the little beggers knocking at their door and ringing the bell.
  • It's now 10.27pm and for the 4th year running, we haven't had a single trick or treater at our door.

We used to buy sweets and for a few years had a few kids coming round. Some weren't even dressed up, especially the teenagers!
We still gave out sweets though, as I am not mean. A bag or two of sweets costs very little and if people are making the effort to walk around in the freezing cold, I'm happy to give them a sweet or two - I put them out on a tray and let them choose what they'd like.
Some of the kids dressed up really nicely and I loved to see the effort they made and would tell them they looked great - it's fun.

We stopped buying sweets after last year as no one came, I miss seeing the kids but we live up the top of a steep hill and there are only 3 houses in our cul de sac so I think that's the reason why but I also know when I used to take my boys around the next street, some of the elderly people were VERY rude - one old man shouted out a very rude tirade of abuse at my young son and his friend - so I stepped up and told him not to swear.
I said there were signs that he could put up if he didn't want children knocking and there was no need for swearing, just a polite, no and my son and his young friend would go away and not bother him.
After that we didn't go out again, he'd had enough and so had I - for the elderly to be so rude, it's wrong. If they want respect, they need to earn it. No need for swearing.

As predicted I didn't get anyone knocking. My lights were on but I have no decs or pumpkin out.
It shows that in some areas no decs/pumpkin = no callers.
  • We were besieged by large, supervised groups of very happy, well behaved and excited children from 6.30 until about 8.45pm. Two young teenage girls and their big brother supervising whilst dressed as the rabbit from Donnie Darko, taking his role very seriously and doing his best to look strong and silent whilst trying to refuse sweets politely as he was 'working'.

As I left for choir practice, I heard the largest group round the corner - as soon as they saw the house, they were squeaking with excitement, but despite climbing over the garden wall to get to the front door quickly, they immediately shuffled into a polite double line and were saying 'Thank You' and 'Happy Halloween' to the OH.

It was lovely to see how happy they all were.
I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.

We tend to get quite a few groups of kids between 6 and 8pm and last night was no exception. I always stock up during the weeks before Halloween with a few packs of haribo/fun size chocolate bars etc when i'm doing a local shop so i have a supply. We will put out a pumpkin in our porch so kids know we are taking part. Never had any problems and it's nice to see the outfits and effort that most of the kids make. By 8pm we bring in the pumpkin and lock up and don't get anyone ringing the bell after that.

  • We went out to our next-door-but-one neighbour's for dinner, so don't know if anyone came to our house :)

They came to hers, but she had left a 'cauldron' of sweets out; a couple of people knocked and at the end of the evening all the sweets were gone.

Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton

I decided to go for a run to avoid the kids knocking on. They were everywhere. I must have seen 100's (and that's not exaggeration).

No trouble though. Crazy some of the !!!! people get up to though.... firing fireworks at a kid and her mother, ridiculous.

My son had a halloween disco at school on Tuesday so we didn't bother with the halloween disco in town last night but if I did anything for halloween it would be to go to an organised event or party. We had no trick or treaters and did not go out trick or treating. You can have fun without knocking on peoples doors. We got some popcorn and watched coco.
