O/S Daily Tuesday 30th October 2018
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Morning everyone
Hugs to those that want/need one x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
Now getting light here, wet underfoot although not raining at the moment, air doesn't feel as cold either.
DH up and gone to work stupid early, DS1 now getting ready for work and DS2 still in his pit, will wake him shortly.
Dinner last night was a naughty takeaway pizza - but was lovely and if I'd have cooked it would have been late as we were later getting back from the funeral. It went off as well as these things can be expected and was a nice service, but everyone still seems shell shocked - sudden death is hard to comprehend. Mum seemed to cope ok.
Dinner tonight will be ham, egg and chips/jacket potato.
Back to work today, we'll see how that goes.
Keep safe and well x

Thank you for starting us off, nmlc.
Scrabble for me later this morning, then I need to run a few errands. It's a bit less chilly here, 2C just now. I'm enjoying being back in my winter warmers. I find being cold there's usually something you can do - add a layer, grab a blanket etc. But in the hot summer the options for cooling down were more limited.
Hoping you have the best possible day, with hugs to the poorlies. xxx0 -
Good morning and thanks NMLC.
With reference to the funeral, you are so right, sudden death is indeed difficult to comprehend. I think it's a process of slowly getting used to the fact that the person has gone.
It seems damp out there, and probably cold.
Yesterday morning we looked after our yougest grandchild while DD had her hair done, then the usual jobs round the house.
I was looking at our dining room carpet last night, it's dirty. Dh might get to grips with the V*x shampoo thing,
We've had the carpets professionally cleaned before, and we were shocked at what came out!! Considering everyone takes their shoes off, and we have doormats, I don't know where the dirt came from.
Really, I would like them cleaned professionally again, but we're trying to save money.
Today it'll be the usual exercise class the the quiz tonight, interspersed with general housework.
I'll be suffering from burn out soon with all this excitement.
Hope everyond has a good day, anyway.
Take care folks0 -
Morning all
Brrr very cold here I have put the heating on a low as I got up for a wee in the night (before last) and it was freezing, it took we ages to warm up and get back to sleep, so I have it on a low to keep the house to a nice temp.
Still feel grotty but I took some night nurse before bed last which is brilliant stuff and sends you right off to sleep, I had a lovely sleepOff to work but if I start to feel worse I will come home will see how it goes.
Did not have the chilli last night as I couldn't be bothered to cook it so we might have it tonight instead.
Specky glad the flat hunting went well xx
TA nice to see you posting, take care of yourself I felt kind of lost for a long time after losing dad, take lots of time to rest xx
Have good day all xx0 -

TravellingAbuela Well done to the family fundraisers! What a great thing to do.
I hope you're finding time to relax a bit xx
My two deliveries were from two different companies, one gave a time of 10.25 – 11.25. The other was 10.28 – 11.28. So far, so good. Turned out they both used DHL, they were delivered together at 10.30
I woke up and instantly thought 'Christmas!'. It's frosty this morning too, so I'm very much in the mood for making Christmas things. Blankets and baublesI might attempt a snowman soon, I'm not very good at doing faces though so I haven't got high hopes for that, lol.
The shopping is coming a bit earlier than usual so we'll go for a walk late morning rather than early. That'll give me time to get the housework done first thing, and I can start crocheting straight after lunch. I'll have about five hours to do what I want, but I won't sit for that long because I'll seize up. But it's nice to know I could if I wanted to

Good morning all
Thank you for starting us off nmlc, pleased the funeral went as well as these things can
Gentle hugs to all who want/ need them.
Didn't manage to post yesterday
TA good to see you back, and what an amazing amount your family raised.
Dumpling sorry to here your devastating news
Speky wow things really are moving, good luck
Mother wasn't talking when we went to visit and OH seems in a world of his own.
Today the only plan for today is to keep warm, the wind is evil here this morning.
Hope you all have a good dayIf you walk at night no-one will see you cry.0 -
Morning folks. Less cold here too this morning and no sign of frost.
Awake at silly o'clock again. I have always been a poor sleeper but am worse now since Bob died. Wide awake re-living everything about 3.00 a.m. onwards and then fit for nothing the rest of the day.
A bit of a frantic day at DD's yesterday. Eldest DGD decided she wanted to make a big batch of churros for us to munch on. Of course the other two wanted to help too and the ensuing mess was unbelievable. But the churros were rather good and rather too morish.
I still have a couple of phone calls to make which I have been putting off but must do today. Plus I came home to a message from the funeral director last night and need to ring him back too. They have been super efficient throughout and I can't praise them enough.
ORGANZA-LACE I am the guilty party taking the anti b prophylaxis. For 3 years I was dragged down with never ending painful infections and, despite being referred to a consultant, no cause was found. Various unpleasant treatments didn't help and the only a/b that cured them short term was Nitrofurantoin. But within days I was clobbered with another so I was discharged and instructed to take just one a night forever! That was 2 years ago and they are, so far, keeping the infections at bay. Maybe CSARINA could ask her GP about doing this?
Many ((HUGS)) as usual for all the poorlies, sad and worried amongst us. Thinking of HOLLY, POPPY and -TAFF and anyone else undergoing unpleasant treatment xx"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0 -
Morning
nanny where were you last night? Ive plated up some dinner for you with extra mushy peasSeriously when dad was alive and they would come for dinner they were always way too early and would often arrive before I had even had a shower. I'd rather people late than early
OL my radiators must be rank but what I cant see I wont worry about for now although will of course have to look now
Heard from Holly yesterday. Still no word on whether she needs additional surgery. Sounds like they may be holding back on the decision as she is still a flight risk. Her treatment is going so well though they actually seem to be focussing on the longer term now by working on her goals. Its a world apart from last time and whilst she is still scared of everything she actually is seeming to gain a benefit. Hoping to get a canvas for Christmas nowShe sends everyone lots of love and insists i go through all the news
Nice to have a chilled day yesterday although Sainsburys took 3 times longer than normal as everything was a novelty for the girls they even took selfies in the mushy pea aisle :rotfl:
Dinner went well the meat was just fall apart gorgeous and the cake was a true work of art. Will try to remember how to post a pic.
Off to Blackpool today to relive some memories from 37 years ago although last time we were in a seedy B+B and this time its quite a bit more up market. Will head there for lunchish and hope the rain stays off then we can have a walk. Tonight we are going to see the Jersey boys which I'm really looking forward to. Food is sorted at the venue so mushy peas will now have to wait till tomorrow.
Have a lovely day all0 -
Good morning all,
Cold and wet here this morning but as I'm a bit off colour and on antibiotics I'll be staying in once I've done the school run. I've finally finished knitting my cardigan so I may attempt to put that together but much more tempting is the Jean Greenhowe knitting pattern for haggis that I have (it's other dolls too, but I really want to make a haggis).
TA I hated the flashbacks. It's hard seeing something that you don't really want to see over and over. Big hugs xxx
redruby hope you feel better soon.
Take care all of you0 -
Good morning everyone.
Yesterday turned into being really stressful with work and spent a lot of day (until about 6pm) trying to sort out a technical issue with a set of students not being able to access their online assessments. At the end it turned out that the main issue was that they needed to use Chrome. Once they did that all was OK.
Just to add to the 'misery' I had put something in the washing load which ran..cue bluey grey knickersMy thoughts were harsh! They are all now in a bleach solution and I'm hoping they get restored to at least near white. I can't wear coloured underwear.
I've got an old teaching colleague arriving tomorrow for a short visit. He's bringing his dog too - that'll be novel for me. I'm really looking forward to seeing him again, we had a good relationship, think I reminded him of his mum!!
The visit means shopping today. I've no idea what he eats but I know he's very fussy. Back in the day he would bring in fresh milk every day and wouldn't touch the stuff from yesterday. Hope he's changed.
Thoughts to Dumpling and her SIL. Nelski - thanks for news of Holly. Hope you enjoy your trip down memory lane. TA - sleep will come when all the built up stress soaks away.
Happy Tuesday to all.0 -
Nelski, enjoy Blackpool, the last time I was there in October it was so windy the illuminations were exploding. Mind you, that was nearly 40 years ago aargh. Oh and we loved the Jersey Boys, a real treat.
I'm glad Holly is progressing.
We had a long phone call with Chris yesterday morning when he was driving back to Wales. He's really struggling at the moment with being away from home during the week, especially since Steve's diagnosis. He's also worried about the next step for him once this maternity leave cover ends and a few other things that are contributing. He's always been a homebody and dislikes change so all this toing a froing is doing him no good and I'm sure he doesn't eat properly. It's horrible being unable to help in any concrete way, all we can do really is listen.
We continued with the loft clear out yesterday, I really don't want to lose momentum. We got rid of several old stereos and speakers and also 3 tower pcs, oh and my wedding dress and Juliet cap. There is still quite a lot to do but the easy wins are now over and it will take decision making. The best thing was that I found the box that I knew was there which had some baby things in including a pram blanket knitted for Laura by her beloved grandma 36 years ago. It's in very good condition (acrylic yarn) although the backing fleece needs replacing (I'll make a patchwork backing from Liberty lawn I think).0
