Help! TRV pin came out

Hope someone can advise the pin was stuck so I was gently hammering the valve. My son 23 who (thinks he) knows it all wiggled it with pliers and it came out with part of the plastic housing
The radiator is now working and there is no leak. However I am worried that continued use as it is may set it off leaking ? Have to go to work shortly but will pick up any replies later if any one can help. Hopefully I won't come home to a flood

had that happen to one of my TRV's years ago, think it did weep a bit, in the end I changed all my old TRV's with the plastic retainers0

You tried a hammer
You son tried pliers
Now try a plumber! :cool:0 -
I think the pin only acts as a push device on the valve itself, so I doubt if it will leak.0

Thanks for the helpful replies. It is still working and not leaking so am not going to worry too much but will look at replacing the TRV. Is it difficult for a DIY'er ? I read you have to drain the system ? Is it possible to isolate the radiator and change it ? What are plastic retainers ?❤️Mum 2018

I've changed TRV's myself. You do need to drain the system - one radiator will have a drain valve to attach a hose to. I closed off all the radiators in the house at each valve (counting the turns on the lockshield end) as this made it quicker to refill (once I'd change the defective valve then opened everything up again) It's a bit of a pain but do-able but keep your son away - no hammer needed!0
