This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Good morning everyone :hello:
Guess who forgot about the clocks going back. I woke up at what I thought was 4.20 but when I came downstairs and switched the computer on I was surprised to see it was only 3.30. It feels so much worse even though I went to bed early. Oh well, I forecast a lengthy nana nap later on.
I have just been chatting on Facebook to another early bird. She used to be a very good friend of mine but really upset me the last time we spoke so I haven't been in touch now for months. When she pinged me a message I was in two minds if I should reply but decided that life is too short and I am not one to hold a grudge anyway. It was nice to speak to her again but I am not going to get sucked into all the drama that surrounds her life.
Lee wants to have a Halloween party this afternoon so we have invited the grandchildren over for food and games. Hopefully it will go well and Lee has been baking up a storm so the food will be yummy. The kids are going to decorate the house this morning once they appear and I am happy as they will have to have a big clear up and clean before they start.
It's been rather chilly here for the past couple of days. I will have to dig out my cardigans so I can layer up. I have decided that I am going to put the heating on when it gets cold in the house as it is miserable sat here shivering to save a few quid. Our gas meter is a key meter anyway so I can't run up a huge bill. I will top it up weekly now and save money on something else like the shopping to cover it.
Phoebe has a job interview tomorrow at a local restaurant so she is feeling very nervous. I have everything crossed she gets the job though as she needs the money. It is only part time but it's a start. Lilly is also looking for a job to earn some money for Christmas. She is going to ring up a company she worked for over Christmas last year to see if she can do that again. I hope it works out for her as she made quite a bit of money, enough to fund her trip to Rome in the Spring.
Right, I am going to watch some tv and snuggle up under a blanket. I may catch 40 winks if I am lucky too. Hope you all have a great day whatever you are up to, take care xx0 -
Morning Dumpling, greetings to the other non-sleepers and to those who will be here later.
Like Organza_Lace, we had snow yesterday morning but it didn't stick. I was out in the afternoon, by which time it was very cold and wet.
I bought chocolate advent calendars for DS and his GF yesterday and noticed that the best before date is the middle of July next year. Surely the whole purpose is for them to be Lopen ed in advent I do see that a best before date is probably a regulatory requirementioned but really!
I also bought a twist, bendy fluffy thing to clean behind radiators and in inaccessible places as behind the radiators is a lot of fluff and dust. I tried improvisING but to little effect. One of the improvisations was an old toothbrush but of course I managed to drop it and now that's stuck between the vanes of a radiator so I decided to bite the bullet.
Thinking of those who are unwell, sad or worried.I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back0 -
God morning, and thanks Dumpling for starting off.
It's cold here, and raining I think. Yesterday morning was nasty. cold, wet and windy, but turned out fine in the afternoon, still cold though.
Dumpling, I think you are sensible in keeping up with your friend but standing back a bit, it's easy to get drawn in to other people's dramas isn't it, and so exhausting. I've been in similar situations.
Lee seems to be becoming an expert baker - hope the party goes well.
Fingers crossed for Phoebe tomorrow.
AOD, i bought a twisty, bendy, fluffy radiator thing, and it's good up to a point, but for getting between the vanes I used a longish piece of old curtain rail, with a pair of old tights wrapped round it. It's a bit of a performance as you have to keep wrapping the tights round, but it does get a lot more fluff and dust out.
Mind, you may not happen to have an old curtain rail to hand. An unbent wire coat hanger with tights round might work.
We had youngest Ds and family yesterday, we hadn't seen them fo a couple of weeks, so it was nice to catch up.
What does today hold - who knows, probably just what my daughter calls "housey stuff".
I haven't read yesterday's thread yet, hope everyone is ok.
Take care folks.0 -

Gers Sorry you're struggling with your mum
redruby That made me laughI know someone who refers to one brand of dog treats as doggy heroin

No wonder I was so cold yesterday morning, when it started to get light I noticed the frost, lol. It stayed cold all day and rained for a bit in the afternoon. Mr tru was working just 10 miles away near Stroud and while it rained here, it snowed there. I was most annoyedMy delivery didn't arrive til 4pm, I tried to get Scampi out into the garden for some exercise but he wouldn't leave the sofa! I persuaded him out for a walk after my stuff arrived, he was reluctant but we went, after 20 minutes he was ready to go home so we turned around and came back. He went straight back to the sofa. I suppose even animals like pyjama days

I was making a blanket, I used lots of different colours and changed the type of stitch every couple of rows. It was going well but I wasn't happy with the last few rows so put it away for a while. I'd look at it now and then, thinking inspiration might strike but I liked it even less each time I saw it so I unravelled it yesterday. I'm going to start a new blanket in the next few days, LM loves my Christmas blankets so I'm going to make him one of his own.
It's cold again so we'll probably spend most of the day indoors. Scented candles, chocolate, yarn play, netflix and stew sounds good to me

I'm popping back, after reading Saturdays's thread. A more sensible person than me would have read it BEFORE posting this morning, but there you go.
TA, I'm glad that Bob's funeral went as well as it could, I thought about you a lot on Friday.
I know that your family will continue to support you.
Keep posting if you can0 -
TA, I'm glad things went as well as they could, take care of yourself.
Thinking of Holly, Poppy, taff and others undergoing treatment at the moment also anyone else who feels ill or down.
We had a good time with Laura and Brian and Ziggy made a huge fuss of me rather than Steve (it's usually the other way round). The meal was lovely but pricey considering the portion sizes. I think the prize for poor value must be the braised leeks, 4 six inch pieces of leek for £7.50. We're too used to Yorkshire portions now!
Steve and Chris went to play golf in the afternoon and got soaked, I baked some ginger cookies and peanut butter and chocolate brownies but I'm not sure about either of them. The cookies don't seem gingery enough and the brownies are a little bit too chewy. I also made fish pie for dinner but didn't add the prawns I usually do and it wasn't the same.
I then started to feel really ill and went to bed straight after Strictly. I'm not really enjoying this year's Strictly for some reason, it's all starting to feel a bit stale.0 -
Good Morning, Oldstylers :hello: - sunny and dry start to the day here today and can see the Flintshire Hills quite clearly
.
dumpling - thanks for starting us off this morning. Hope your DGD's manage to find themselves some Christmas work and/or something more permanent. Ooh ohther people's dramas - always a difficult subject.
ancientofdays - SNOW already . Good luck with your radiator cleaning. I've used a 'wire coat hanger' covered with an old tee-shirt in the past, but it doesn't get into any proper nooks/crannies.
ScarletRibbons - enjoy your day.
tru - love the sound of your day - cosied up / scented candles / bit of crochet / stew type meal :j!
snoozer - I'm with you on the cost of those Leeks . Hope you manage to feel a bit better today.
Sending ((((gentle hugs)))) to everybody who needs them.
Went to Bohemian Rhapsody yesterday (absolutely brilliant!), followed by a meal in Wetherspoons. I love their 'Ordering App', but can't use it to choose from their Gluten Free Menu - so still had to go to the bar. Lovely young guy saw me with a stick and brought our drinks back for me on a tray . OH had the Madras Curry - I had the Grilled Halloumi with Quinoa Salad (yet again!) and decided to 'go all out' and had their 'GF Apple Crumble with Custard' :T.
Off to church in a couple of hours but haven't decided on what we're having for meal this evening - don't think OH will want curry yet again.
Have a good Oldstyle day - luv Ollie xx0 -
Good morning all
Thank you for starting us off dumpling
Gentle hugs to all who want/ need them.
TA thank you for posting, good to hear all went well.
Woke at 3 this morning, well that should be 2 really. We had thunder, lightning and the sound of the rain on the windows kept me awake. Bright and sunny now but I'm sure it's freezing out.
Going to visit mother, wonder if she will talk to me today.
Hope you all have a good dayIf you walk at night no-one will see you cry.0 -
Morning All
Cold again but beautifully sunny. There was a white frost earlier but the sun is melting it away.
More washing on the go, I did 2 loads of bedding yesterday along with the towels, bath mats, dressing gown and various throws from about the house. They all dried outside and my bedding went back on.
After Yoga we went for a little swim and a laze in the jacuzzi, I felt refreshed and ready to tackle some jobs at home. Got the grass cut and sorted out some pots and cleaned the downstairs windows. Ended the day with a trip to the cinema to see Bohemian Rhapsody, quite enjoyed it but the chap playing Freddie didn't have that little something Freddie had.
Today's jobs are to clean the windows upstairs and do some shopping, may venture into the cellar to have a tidy up.
Pleased the funeral went well TA, look after yourself.
Sorry your DM isn't so good Gers, sounds very frustrating. Your sunset looked amazing.
Enjoy the party dumpling.
Thinking of those who are poorly/worried/sad.
Have a good Sunday, take care. XX0 -
As you know I went to the funeral last Monday and it was a peaceful.comforting time. However, I have been laid low with another infection since and have hardly left the bed or sofa since. On a different antibiotic now and I think things are a little better this morning. The worst thing is the night sweats which soak me and the bed, oh joy! Trying to drink enough as last time the hospital said I was dehydrated.
Snow here last night but gone now and looks like it is going to be a cold beautiful day,.0
