You left ebay to refund the buyer instead of refunding yourself??

Tell me about it, when the buyer first started the return eBay took the amount out of my PayPal account which they normally do. On the 12 Oct eBay said try have refunded the buyer and I thought this was the end of it. Then on the 24th October eBay sent me another message saying they have refunded the buyer. So I checked my PayPal account and they put the money they froze back into my PayPal account minus the PayPal fee, they then took the full amount from my credit card. Not sure what's happening her, eBay normally only takes selling fees from my credit card via PayPal but this time they refunded the buyer with my credit card instead of refunded through my PayPal.

If you refused to accept the return (which I'm guessing is the case) then as I suspected, your reimbursement method has been used to refund eBay. Yes, it refunds eBay. They refund the buyer, they take the money from you.

No I accepted the return because eBay would of let the buyer keep the item and refunded them. Looking on the PayPal forum this happens alot. Not sure why eBay never refunded through my PayPal balance and PayPal returning there fee to make the refund. Ebay has bypass this by giving a full refund using my credit card.

I was wondering if the "fee" was the buyer's return postage charge that Ebay may have initially paid for.

No the fee is what PayPal takes from you.

Say a item sells for £100 with postage, buyer uses PayPal to PayPal, so PayPal takes a fiver for using them. So you get £95. So when a buyer wants a refund eBay takes the £95 back from you and the £5 fee back from PayPal. But eBay never fone this, they just refunded the buyer £100 using my credit card on eBay. So now I am £5 down
Ebay adds the return postage cost to your seller fees.
  • Some of us regular sellers have possibly never "allowed" eBay to take the money but instead always refunded first which could explain why they haven't seen that missing PayPal fee.

Never had a choice, the buyer goes straight to return a item, eBay freeze the payment in your PayPal, after the item is returned ebay then unfreeze your payment and take the full amount from your credit card or bank account. This bypass PayPal refund so you don't get your PayPal fee back.. This is happening quite alot.

No, you do get the choice. You didn't refund, you let the case go the course and lost.

Never lost, eBay has now just seen the return in my favour and return my postage costs and PayPal has just returned my fee.

Remarkable and well timed. Wouldn't you say?

Paypal don't have fees as such, they don't get returned.....
