New Ryanair cabin bag rules from Nov 1st

Any thoughts, help and suggestions on the following would be welcome, tyvm in anticipation.

New free cabin bag dimensions from Nov 1 are 40x20x25. I'm travelling Nov 5 and struggling to find any retailer (online or otherwise) offering 'budget' bags with these dimensions. Doing a 3 night (lads, not wife) trip so not taking any other bag but want to maximise my capacity and the new dimensions give up to 20l as opposed to 14/15l of the current cabin bag size of 35x20x20.

Additionally, Ryanair's site states the following :

We have increased the size of the free small carry-on bag by over 40% from 35 x 20 x 20cm (14,000 cm³) to 40 x 20 x 25cm (20,000 cm³).

We have almost doubled the size of our small bag sizer from 35 x 20 x 20cm (14,000 cm³) to 42 x 20 x 30 cm (25,200 cm³) to allow carry-on bags that are considerably (25%) larger than our permitted small bag dimensions

Do we think that on the basis the sizer is 42x20x30 - this is the actual size that we will be able to get away with as the 1 free small carry on...? And anywhere to buy one of these, now....??

FYI the RyanAir website won't let you add individual bags - only bulk-buy for the group as a whole - cheeky sods! There's a way around this, see my posts at:

  • This one on ebay

Also a Benzi 40x25x20 one available on both ebay and amazon if you want a shoulder strap holdall rather than backpack style. Should give you plenty of space for clothes, toiletries, electronics, and snacks for the plane. If it was me I wouldn't risk going any larger than the official approved size as you don't want to be stuck with a massive fee for putting your bag in the hold over a few cm. And how much stuff do you need for a 3 night trip anyway!

I read it as the free carry on is 40x20x25

The increase to 42 x 20 x 30 cm is for the small carry on bag allowed to priority paying passengers who are allowed the small carry on bag and the small bag ( wheelie bag).

    see this page https://www.ryanair.com/gb/en/useful-info/help-centre/faq-overview/Baggage/new-bag-policy-effective-01st-november

Hmm, yes, BUT, how do you interpret this - think it's still a bit ambiguous...?

    We have increased the size of the free small carry-on bag by over 40% from 35 x 20 x 20cm (14,000 cm³) to 40 x 20 x 25cm (20,000 cm³).

And then it seems to infer that you can put your free small, 'non priority' carry on bag, in the priority wheelie case 'sizer' and as long as it isn't 25% bigger than permitted, size of 42x20x30, you may 'get away' with that. Or are they going to have 2 different size 'sizers'...?? Can't see that happening tbh....?

    6. What happens if my ‘small’ bag doesn’t fit in the sizer?

If non-priority customers’ 1 free small bag doesn’t fit in the new sizer then their bag is more than 25% bigger than their small bag allowance. They will pay a gate bag fee of €25 and their bag will be tagged and placed in the hold. (See point 5)

Also, once on board, how will the cabin crew know whether you are a priority or non priority passenger and 'police' where you put your bag (overhead OR under seat) once on board. We all know that despite priority/non-priority boarding/lanes/queues, once you're crammed onto the bus to the plane when there's no air bridge, it becomes a massive lottery as everyone is re-merged.
  • We fly Ryanair many times each year, they used to have one of their staff walking up and down with a cardboard luggage "sizer" box, but not seen that in years.

They never bother with soft sided shoulder bags (assuming it's not stuffed full to resemble a barrel), the other option is priority boarding for a nominal sum to take a small wheeled case, or pay extra for a 10Kg case to put in the hold.

I think the OP is over thinking the issue... just read their luggage T&Cs, it's written in plain language and gives very specific dimensions.
  • We need medical equipment and are wondering if this would be in addition to the carry on or instead of? It can't go in the hold, we need to have it with us.

  • Wasn't particularly 'overthinking' this (although with Ryanair I think you sometimes have to stay one step ahead of them...)

The main point of my OP was about obtaining a 40x20x25 bag (for a reasonable price) in line with their new free carry on policy from Nov 1. Anyway, used a 5 cities one off Amazon (overpriced at £20 for what it is but it was the new bigger size and did a job, fitting well under the seat,) on Nov 5 and will be using it again next week - what IS clear though is it appears the Internet still has massive stocks of the previous max size of 35x20x20 bags even IF you search for the new, bigger size - very few of 40x20x25's about....

    Hi
Has anyone purchased/used the Cabin Max Cadiz as mentioned in post no3 .
Received this today... its huge, at least 45x 30x15. bigger than advertised and bigger than Ryan Air allows. Appears a lot bigger than my other carryon bags.
Unsure whether to send back, although as long as don't brim it, it will squash as is a soft bag.
