Problem unlocking motorola razr v3

Hi, I'm new to the forum so please forgive me if this is in the wrong place. I've downloaded software to unlock my motorola razr v3 but it doesn't work. the screen comes up with fail at the last hurdle. I wondered if there was something siple that I'm missing, maybe I should remove the simcard first?
If anyone can help, I'd appreciate it.

when i reflash sony ericssons i tend to leave the sim out (but it doesnt really make a difference).

for unlocking i would take the sim out
