Advertised a brand new, sealed XBox One S 1TB with 2 controllers for £180. Bought off Amazon as part of a bundle. I changed my mind and bought an XBox One X instead. Can return the console and get £168.45 refund, console with the second controller pack is £229.99 currently.

Explained all that in the advert, put it on gumtree and facebook.
Thought i'd stick it online and try to return my money on it and get someone a wee bargain coming up to christmas, complete with Amazon receipt for the years warranty. :xmassmile
Had all the !!!!!!!!s -
Got one woman who seemed reasonably sane - needed it for her kid for a christmas present, so i agreed to keep it for her until (last) Saturday morning. Messaged on Saturday "have to work, can pick it up monday?" I work away from home so i said not back to Thursday night, contact me then and pick it up friday. "oh thats really great, thank u so much, wont mess you about. Thank you thank you!".
Messaged her this afternoon "what time are you picking this up at? I need to post it back to Amazon tomorrow AM if you dont want it." - got a reply - "i will get round for it after 16:00 tomorrow hopefully".
So i just replied no has to be posted tomorrow morning, cant keep it any longer. No reply but i dont care any more and will just return it.
!!!!!! is it with people? Significant saving, brand new and sealed, and either (a) they mess you around and expect YOU to pander to their whims around pickup or (b) they bid a ridiculously low offer??
Fortunately i dont have to deal with these dolts and can just return it, but its !!!!ing maddening how self centred and self obsessed people are these days, and i thought i'd be doing someone a favour rather than sending it back to Amazon, particularly with Christmas coming up. That'll teach me to try to be nice eh?
Must be soul destroying dealing with the general public these days trying to sell things.

Did you get a refund from Amazon or not? [If not why not - begs the question] Perhaps I missed it...0

Yes Amazon will refund no probs. Thought I'd attempt to sell it locally first. It's going back tomorrow.
Genuinely thought it would be better for someone to get it cheap than give it back to Amazon.
Facebook and gum tree just seems full of people wanting something for nothing or time wasters.0 -

Although it is a bit cheaper than in the shops it is not something I would risk buying as it doesn't come with a guarantee if anything should fail.0 -

It came with the full amazon receipt for a years warranty, which would be with Microsoft anyway. But yes, i take your point that some people might see it as a risk. Had a mad flurry of interest which is what i was expecting but as i said only from people looking it for practically nothing or timewasters.
Would happily have taken my money back on it and sold it for £170.
Very frustrating but it seems to be the way the world is moving.
You live and learn.

I listed a piece of furniture on Facebook for just £5. Collection only.
New it would cost £40, second hand about £15. I went for a low price as it has a small scratch at the bottom (not noticeable) and to be honest I just wanted rid of it a it's in the way.
First person arranged collection, THEN asked if it was in perfect condition, then changed their mind as it wasn't perfect.
Second person who was desperate for it who had said "yes please next in line xxxxxx" so I sent them a PM to ask if they still wanted it. "Yes please" they replied, so I asked when they could collect and they said "can u deliver." Er... NO! After a silence I asked if they were able to collect, to which they replied that they do not drive.
Person 3 who also really wanted it took 3 hours to reply saying they couldn't collect.
Person 4 is apparently collecting it tomorrow evening. We shall see...
I deliberately put £5 on it as if you offer anything for free it attracts so many time wasters!Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')
No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)0 -

Sadly that mirrors my experiences of selling used items to.
I threw a working perfectly 19 inch Toshiba LCD TV out recently because selling it for £15 seemed to involve me either waiting in all weekend for people not to turn up or me driving 20 miles to meet them..
It seems we live in a disposable society where everyone thinks the world revolves around them.
Everyone nowadays apparently deserves and has the right to the latest brand new shiny thing whether they can afford it or not, and if you are selling something used, then you will have to indulge them to the Nth degree and practically give the items away as they've deemed they're doing you a favour by taking it off you.0 -
I think it depends on the demographic of the platform you use. facebook and gumtree do have timewasters but I have found that nextdoor is better.
I sold a large pine cabinet for £5 recently on facebook, eventually it was the 4th person who actually collected it.
This week I've given away an iron, a paint roller system and a sky box, on nextdoor and all 3 were collected as arranged.
Our local tip has a shop and I take good non electrical stuff there now, it saves the messing around and 10% goes to a local charity.0 -
I have now become Mrs stroppy on facebook marketplace, and have started adding a line about not holding, and immediately re listing if someone fails to collect, i also keep a note of timewasters or numpties that annoy me so I can turn them down flat if they ask for something else.
I am having more work done on the house and as a result have many things to dispose of, including some very good furniture items that I am just replacing due to colours and a change round in the house. I sold 2 bedside cabinets for £5 (working on Pinkshoes principle that there are less time wasters for goods with a 'value'. I had endless issues, including one woman who was supposedly collecting at 6pm and who when I contacted them at 7pmsaid she got muddled and thought I was dropping them off as she doesn't drive. Another woman turned up with a toddler in a push chair and asked me how on earth I expected her to carry them back home on the bus(?) then I got the one who really made me cross, failed to collect twice but said she was desperate for them , on third try she asked if I could deliver them and I said no , she then said she doesn't drive so would need to come on a bus but if she did that I would need to run her home again as she was disabled and couldn't even lift one cabinet.
Eventually went for free to someone I suspect was a dealer only for me to get a curt email from admin on one of the groups I had advertised it on saying I shouldn't give things to these (racial slur) dealers as the cabinets could have done someone a turn if I had just been patient.
Don't even get me started on the Ikea bookcases and cabinets - after 10 days of being messed around the British Heart Foundation is taking them next week.
EDIT I tried to give away amongst other things sets of crystal glasses,a dinner service and a working bread makers - all of themwere'fail to collect' after several attempts. All of them as well got me sob stories for people with disabilitieswho really wanted them and said I was mean if I didn't do a 20 mile + round trip to drop them off, although in fairness one said she would give me a pound for my petrol !I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards.
