  • Well to be fair, they're not obliged to tell you what they are doing for other people - that's for them to decide and take up.

you sound like you work for Sainsburys Gary but thanks for that I would never had worked that out on my own. Completely missing the point of why I posted.
  • Ah.

You're one of those "you have an opinion so must work for the company in question" people.

No, I don't work for them. Just stating the obvious on what you seem to think should be provided to you.
  • This situation with Sainbury's Bank credit cards has affected me too with a card that was cleared in 2010 but reappeared on my credit record as unpaid.

My discovery was on Oct 11th via my Clearscore account and, as-of today Nov 8th, Sainsbury's has not contacted Equifax, despite saying they would. A telephone call to them today confirms they have done/will do today and they will write to me at the same time to confirm. I originally contacted Equifax who wrote direct to Sainsbury's (because they're aware of the problem) to request Sainsbury's issue the request to remove the entry from my account. As of today they received no response.

Either way, it apparently takes 6-8 weeks to be processed once teh request has been received and neither party will inform me once it's been done - I have to rely on my Clearscore update to show the card has been removed.

Whilst the following doesn't directly help any of us regain our credit status, it's unlear whether this is a GDPR issue, not that it categoricaly isn't because financial insitutions are exempt. I'm not saying this situation would be considered a breach of personal data or possibly even the abuse of it but, if it were, the financial institution in question would very defintely not be exempt.

Whilst I accept that, according to Mr Dexter, "Admin/IT mistakes happen from time to time", it's that irresponsible attitude that spawned the original data protection rules and, more recently, the GDPR.

In my view, Sainsbury's needs to accept full responsibility for their error and the direct affect it's had on many people's lives. At the very least they must surely be legally bound, under the GDPR, to inform the indivduals that have been affected. At the most they should publicly come clean so all the people who remain blissfully aware can check for themselves.

I am going to report the incidient to the ICO (I may not be the first) and will let them decide.

In the meantime, I would urge everyone to sign-up for a Clearscore account and keep a regular check on their credit history. Without mine I would never have known this ridicualous situation had even occured.

Nope you are just missing the whole point and realise you were wrong earlier so are answering the only part on the post you feel you have an "opinion on " to sound knowledgeable. If you read it again you will realise I don't "feel" they should have provided me that info - merely clarifying the current position. By focussing in this little part you are distracting from the point of the post which is to alert others to a widespread issue which - as yet- has not hit the mainstream press. But it will.

    .

Yes I'm contacting the ombudsman. It's shocking. The part of the GDPR which reads

"Personal data should be processed fairly, lawfully and in a transparent manner."

Has clearly been breached. As a minimum they are not being transparent with former customers over this.

I'd be going absolutely nuts and would probably start making complaints / escalating to the FOS for any losses incurred. I can't offer any advice but thanks for raising this, my other half had a Sainsbury's Bank credit card so I will get her to check her credit reports with all agencies.

I have just spoken to Experian and despite Sainsbury's saying they had sent a separate note to correct my file. They have not. Experian have stated there is a process where Sainsbury's (and others) can send through an exception get corrections done in 72 hours.

apparently this has not been done because Sainsburys have a backlog of credit file amendments to get through....I just want this correcting. I'd love to be able to sit here and "Sainsbury's have been great and proactive" but at the minute I'm being told incorrect information and being given the run-around for something that is not my fault

Sainsbury's are being excellent (as they should be) once you are through to the right people. If this affects you phone banking customer services and ask for it to be lodged as a formal complaint with customer services. They can get you credit file rectified almost immediately.
