Hanging a large canvas piece

Sorry for the absolute noob question. I have a large canvas art piece, 60x40 inches.
Too heavy I reckon for command strips so have to get it hung up. The wall is brick and hammering a nail in is near impossible. Looks like I may need to use a screwdriver but want advice on the best way to do it without chunks of the wall coming of. Or even if there is a better solution than a drill.
Thanks for the help.

The drill is the right choice; rawl plugs and screws and you'll be away.0

Assuming you're not fixing direct into brick, command strips can take quite a lot of weight so long as applied properly. We have two large (one very large) canvas' hung using them (4 fixings per canvas) - so far so good, neither has fallen off the wall (except one that was entirely due to my own fault messing about with it)

Not as large but I do have a big canvas piece being held up by command strips and a glass frame picture. With this one, it is significantly bigger than those and my son will be (eventually) sleeping right underneath it0

Using a wall plug and screw is the easiest route.
Drilling a little hole to fit a wall plug shouldn't damage it, but if the bricks and masonry is very old they can be more crumbly so start with a smaller drill bit as the hole might turn out slightly bigger.0 -
Thanks all. Purchased this cordless drill hammer from Argos and thought I would practice on the loose bricks outside before going into the wall. The drill hardly made a dent in the brick, literally just scratching the surface. I first used the drill mode to make the dent before upping the torque and using the hammer-drill function.
Is the drill simply not capable or am I doing something wrong?0 -
You need a masonry drill bit, not hss.0

Was the battery fully charged and were you applying good pressure behind the drill as you were drilling?
We've just drilled masonry to fit shelves with a basic cordless drill that I bought in Woolies years ago for not much money. Although it was an effort in some places, with a masonry drill bit, it did do the job with a little perseverance, so I don't see why yours wouldn't too.Feb 2015 NSD Challenge 8/12JAN NSD 11/16
