Unless paid within 28 days this becomes a ccj. This is automatic. If you ignored paperwork then you will face an uphill struggle the size of a mountain to overturn this.
If the paperwork didn't arrive (which has happened frequently recently due to a muck up in the process that Northampton are aware of) then overturning this is much easier.
If you pay the then the chances of overturning this are slim to none. You also have to act promptly. The courts will refuse to hear your case if there is undue delay. They want it acted upon yesterday.
Get on the phone to Northampton first thing as per post #14. Writing letters ad Infinitum will land you with a ccj that you are stuck with for 6 years0
