Traffic fines and foreign car hire

Has anyone had any similar issues? We have just returned from Germany and have had £29 deducted from our credit card for a traffic offence. The fine was 10 euros but the car hire firm have added over 23 euros in admin charges. We don't even know what the fine is for. There were no parking tickets during our stay, so it can only be for exceeding the speed limit.

Have had similar in Spain but that was speeding and the hire company gave me full details without charging fees on top. Have you asked the hire company for details?Save 12k in 2020 #19 £12,429.06/£14,0000

That sounds about right, what did your rental agreement say about charges for dealing with fines on your behalf?I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. The admin fee is standard for them to grass you up- in fact you got off light- my BiLaw paid more.
Out of interest, did the Car Hire Company take the added penalty from your CC (as opposed to just the fee?).
Google "EU Cross-Border Enforcement Directive " and you'll see that theoretically, fixed penalties can now be levied accross borders, but I've not met anyone who has actually had such a letter from an EU enforcer?
Whereas when the same thing happened to to me in New York USA almost 50 years ago, the traffic authority there sent me threatening letters for years! I never paid.... but ain't been back to NY at least; they'd probably send me to Guantanamo!0 -
How did the hire company "grass up" their client ?The admin fee is standard for them to grass you up- in fact you got off light- my BiLaw paid more.
Presumably the car had been involved in a traffic offence and the German police knew the registration plate, thereby indicating the rental company and obliging them to identify the driver ?0 -
Hi, did you pay the fine for the Spanish ticket?0
