All the cheaper ones are poor, especially in a non ff when you try to pull a stuck draw.

I'm not sure this is true actually, my £1600 Miele FF had a similar problem, and we went down the duct tape route.
I think this is part of the planned obsolescence of these items. The FF itself is fine but people get hacked off with having to replace doors at £800 (seals went and no replacements) and acrylic drawers at £60 a time so they just buy a new FF.
I think we have to accept that cheap or expensive, manufacturers want us to replace every 3-5 years.

On the other hand, our 25 year old Hotpoint fridge freezer (which has lived in the garage for the last 15 years) continues to work perfectly - and all the plastic is crack free.

One made 25 years ago isn't the same build quality as one made today. (Broadly speaking & certainly so for the best-sellers.)
Your 25 year old Hotpoint fridge freezer will not only be costing you more in electricity than a modern, "cleaner" and energy-efficient one but in real terms the price has come down a lot in 25 years, just as it has with most white goods.
The White Goods Trade Association explains nicely and although this refers to washing machines, the article says this applies to all white goods.
The average lifespan of appliances has dropped in relation to the prices.

Now, over 80% of all washing machines as an example sold cost under £500. Over 40% cost under £300. Obviously these cheaper products do not have the same build quality, performance or longevity and therefore the average lifespan has dropped from over ten years to under seven years and it is not unusual for cheaper appliances to only last a few years now.
Again (sigh) you can't post a link here until who-knows-when so put an htpps:// and then a www. in front of the following if you fancy a bit of light reading.

Similar problem here with tall Zanussi freezer.

I have drawers with 2 flap sections at the top of freezer and it is the plastic bits at the sides of flaps that have snapped off.

Also, have a problem with seal where it will start bleeping untill I push top section of door slightly and then it stops bleeping

Freezer is approx 5 years old
