Sorry for the lengthy post below. Im trying to get an idea of whhat compensation would be reasonable.

Ordered a bed and mattress for my daughter from Bensons for Beds back in August and was given a delivery date for 3 weeks time, 21 Sept. 3 days after placing the order, paying deposit and setting up the interest free credit account they contacted me to say that there had been an issue with the fabric on the headboard and that the headboard had been delayed to w/c 12 October ( a further 3 weeks). They advised they could deliver the rest of the order on the original date and the headboard after. As I paid for them to assemble, want the order together and not have to take 2 days off work I told them to deliver it all together.

I was left with no delivery date. I complained via resolver and they were very slow to respond but apologised said they could discuss compensation when I had received the order. Still no date.

I called them at the end of September to see if any update, none but was told they'd call me back 8th October. I didn't receive a call so phoned again. Was told they could deliver 25 October (now 8 weeks from order) but this was convenient so I asked for the next day, but their next delivery date was 31 Oct, again no good for me so we've finally settled in 2nd November. This is 6 weeks later thank original delivery date.

So they've said they will discuss compensation when it's been delivered, but I'm not sure what to ask for. I don't want to sell myself short but I don't want to be super cheeky and ask for too much. Ideally I'd like money off the order, it was £1400 and I've paid 10% deposit. Is 25% off too much to ask for? Is there some guidance on what percentage is reasonable per week delay?

If they won't give me money off I'll try and get a new down duvet I think.

Any advice much appreciated.

Thanks

You delayed it by fussing over a headboard. 25% off is ridiculous for a situation partly of your own making. You could have had the bed on time and a headboard doesn’t take much to fix.

Honestly a 6 week delay in a headboard (I’m not counting the bed, that was on you) is nothing. It’s a headboard.

I didn;t even read it properly, originally the delay was going to be 2 weeks from original date and you refused two earlier dates. Youre being ridiculous.

What are your actual financial losses so far - zero? Perhaps the cost of calls?

A £50 goodwill payment would be more than appropriate imo.

The headboard is fully part if the bed and is full length to the floor. To have to take it all ou again in a small room is a big inconvenience. I ordered it altogether and to be delivered alltogther as 1 order. Not 2 days off work. It is not my own doing, they couldn't deliver my bed in one piece. I didnt fuss i told them i wanted my order in onemgo as they promised when they took the order.

What do you think is reasonable to ask for then. They've already told me they'd give me compensation. I don't know what is, hence me asking.

What exactly do you feel you need to be compensated for ? What are your losses ??

I think they should maybe throw in a couple of pillows to say "sorry for being late" - but anything other than that and you are being silly
  • 25% lol

Why not do something out of the ordinary and ask for nothing?

£350 for a delayed delivery?! :rotfl:

If you get 10% of that i'd count yourself lucky. I'm guessing they are saying wait until it's delivered so they can mug you off easier.

As you haven't actually had to take any time off yet then you've had no actual financial loss. Therefore any "compensation" will purely be goodwill.

25% is ridiculous. If you get even 10% I'd be amazed ... £75 tops IMHO.

i think £20 should cover it but im guessing you want the recently developed snowflake tax adding, so if i were you i would ask for £20,000

    Quantify your losses.

How much were the phone calls and how long did you spend on the phone?

So far these are your only losses.

You had the opportunity to cancel when they told you about the problem.
Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)
