Or a completely non fashionable area like Smithy Bridge near Rochdale where you could buy a 3 bed semi with parking for aroun £150k. Take a trip by train to Smithy Bridge and visit Hollingworth lake while you are there. Great place for country walks if you are into that sort of thing. Not a great place of you want fashionable resaurants.
  • Yes to Edgeley!

I moved there back in the summer and I love it. We orginally looked at Cheadle but found for our budget (£200K+) we didn't get much for our money. Then we moved a bit further out and found Edgeley. There's lots of first time buyers moving to the area and there's a nice sense of community there. We also realised by moving a bit further out, we have a good sized garden and three bedrooms too.

For travel wise, as someone else posted it's near Stockport and from Edgeley, you can get to Manchester Piccadilly via the train which takes about 9 minutes. The trains are so frequent too. Stockport itself also has lots of nice, independent shops popping up which I'm hoping will continue - as well as maker markets and a foodie festival too.

The only things that put me off Edgeley are the planes and castle street. However... the planes actually become really enjoyable to watch and we don't notice them in the house whatsoever. We also prefer living under a flight path compared to being on a busy main road. As for Castle Street, we're all just waiting for someone to open up a nice, independent shop but if you need anything there's a few supermarkets near by as well as Stockport town centre which you could walk to - or get the bus into Cheadle. We only ever go by Castle Street when getting the train. As for parking, we don't have a parking space but there is a general rule people park outside their house - if you go on a viewing, maybe ask a neighbour what the parking situation is like?

There is a few for sale on RightMove at the moment in the area which I think would fit your budget.

We looked at Prestwich and found we were getting out bid SO many times, as well as Urmston, and Heaton Chapel - sometimes at least £10K over! Yes, they do have lots of bars and restaurants, but if you wanted that you could easily walk into Stockport or get a bus/taxi to Cheadle for that type of thing from Edgeley. And who knows, maybe Edgeley will become the next Prestwich?!

If you've got any questions, let me know and happy house hunting!
  • I second Stockport - there are 3-bed houses for around £150k popping on the market but you'll most likely be up against 3+ other buyers or have to sacrifice one or two things.

How do you feel about the football ground now being a music venue as well?

Eccles in Salford is up and coming, lots of investment and likely to go in value, it's close enough to Monton for nice restaurants and bars (Monton is out of you price range). Terraces common, if you go towards the hospital end, just off Lancaster road you get more 1930s semis but there's less around in terms of cafes etc. Trams and trains in to Manchester in about 15 minutes.

    .
I lived in Eccles until 4 months ago. Some parts I wouldn't touch with a barge pole, some are better (I wish I could have afforded Monton!). You do need to do some looking around at different times of day to get a feel.

Lancaster Road area is nice, and you might just get a house for £150k. Trams are frequent and not as crowded as some other lines, but could be a good 15 minutes + walk then a 25 minute tram ride from Lancaster Road.

Other areas of Eccles are predominantly terraces, with on-road parking.
  • Sorry I've only just spotted this!

To be honest, it doesn't bother me. In the time we have been living there, I haven't noticed any noise from the football. And for parking, in our area it's encouraged to have a permit so that tends to put people off from parking nearby.

I think it's great how the Blossoms are playing next June. I also think it would help to bring more of a community rather than at just the football games.
