Totally agree with that. Just to add though, the above argument might just sail if the bank is not so keen on retaining the charges and if this is a first time default from your side. If you are a habitual at exceeding your sanctioned limit, I am afraid I must be frank and say you deserve what you got on this one...It's always the grass that suffers, irrespective of whether the elephants are fighting or making love !!!0

Thanks for all who posted replies. Think theres two views regarding bank charges! Personally i agree with Martin. I appreciate the bank cant let folk go over their overdrafts willynilly and not charge, my rant was regarding the AMOUNT they charged for such a small amount over. I am not going to comment any more, if they dont waive the charge i will pay it. Cant be a**d anymore shouting to the people on their high horses!! And I understand one poster getting fed up with "dozens of posts" like mine, but I thought this was a consumer revenge site as well as moneysaving tips, and if you are that fed up dont bother posting any replies.DFW NERD....560

CookieWillow - It's all very well quoting T&C's, but the main point is that fairness should apply, and the penalty should be appropriate to the "crime". Some Banks are reasonable and will refund without too much hassle.
BTW - Don't get too annoyed, we all have differing opinions, and they should all be respected, although I freely admit that I find it astounding that anybody can support Bank rip-off charges. Still, if we all agreed, the Forum would be mega-dull.
Good luck. And if they refuse, try writing. It might not get a refund, but at least the Bank will actually have to work to earn the £30!0 -

Just treat your overdraft limit with the same respect as the platform edge at a railway station (don’t stand too close). Here the 'buffer' is indicated by a yellow line, on your side of the platform. Create your own buffer within your limit.0 -

What a brilliant way of visualising it!The acquisition of wealth is no longer the driving force in my life.0 -
But if you step over the line, you get a lot of wind as the train passes, go well over it and you are likely to be killed. Does that mean that Banks should give you wind for the first £50 over-limit and then kill you for any further excess?:rotfl:
And yes, I am very bored. Shall I get my coat?0 -
The very thought of my overdraft gives me wind.Second and final LBM 01/01/11 Nearly got there but fell of wagon. HAVE to do it this time :mad:0
