Yes, call them, just make sure it's freephone or go into the branch and dispute the charges. If they still dispute the charges, just claim them back using Martin's letter on here. If you have not been OD before then they should waive the charge. Just keep a close eye on your account in the future so they don't charge again. Don't let them take your cash without a fight, I wouldn't.“Ordinary riches can be stolen, real riches cannot. In your soul are infinitely precious things that cannot be taken from you.” - Oscar Wilde0

Hi Cookie,
This happened to me last week, a cheque was presented to my bank on the day that I put some money in and I was charged £25 because they banked the cheque, when I called to say how wrong and unfair this was and whether they could do anything about it they said that they were not refunding any charges until the court case has been heard over reclaiming bank charges which won't be until next year1 So they have had the interest on our charges and will do until the case is won! Grrrr! :mad:0 -
Think they bunging em all in now hoping to get as much money as they can!! Not all folk reclaim as well so they be quids in! Taught me an expensive lesson. I always thought there was a £10 buffer as well and that if you did go over but it was under that amount they would not charge. Will try and pop into branch tomorrow (although i work nights) and see what comes of it Might actually fling the 39p over the counter while im there and say "just incase it happens again!"DFW NERD....560

seeing as the terms & conditions are that the funds are in your account BEFORE you write a cheque I don't see how you can claim they are being unfair, if you abuse the cheque book facility regularly like this they are within their rights to stop issuing cheque books0 -

A friend of mine went £6.00 over his overdraft limit and he banks with LLoyds. He was going to be awarded the £30.00. However I suggested he phoned. He phoned and explained it was an oversight and as this is the first time it had happened in 12 months they refunded the fee. So its certainly worth contacting your bank.0 -

& how would it be the cashiers fault that YOU went over YOUR limit?! -
you have 2 options seeing as you are exceeding your limit - note: limit not target! - if your account warrants it ask them to increase it as your present o/d facility is not enough seeing as you are spending above this - or if they say that your income isn't sufficient then a look at some of Martins ways to cut corners will be a good start
and that folks is my last post on the current account boards0 -

Firstly, I wouldnt do that to the cashier!!! I was speaking against the bank, I am not that childish or violent.
Secondly, My salary goes in and usually pays back my od facility. It is true I shouldnt go back into the facility but hey, shoot me!!
And thirdly, I have had such a gutful of folk "telling me off", on this site. I was cross that the bank charged me £30!!!! for 39p!!!! So thank you for your VIEW. Will take it on board :rolleyes:DFW NERD....560

Hi Cookie, I bank with Nationwide and the last time I went over my overdraft was approx 3 years ago, it too was only for a few pence and they were very reasonable and refunded straight away when I called as I pointed out it was the first time I had done this.
I always want to go off on one at organisations when feel wronged but you are much more likely to get a postive response with a smile and a bit of humble pie!
Don't let others get you down, we're human after all and it is easy to make a mistake in our hectic lives. xxSecond and final LBM 01/01/11 Nearly got there but fell of wagon. HAVE to do it this time :mad:0 -

COOKIEWILLOW, You say that you are fed up ''of folk telling me off''. Some people reading/posting on 'Budgeting & Current Accounts' get fed up of people going overdrawn or over their overdraft limit, getting charged for doing so & then blaming everyone in the whole world but themselves. There are dozens of posts like yours every week.
If you go so much a one penny overdrawn or over your overdraft limit the bank's computer will apply the appropriate charge automatically. There isn't some vindictive person sat behind a desk waiting to apply charges on your or my account. The staff in your local branch won't know anything about the charges until you complain about them.0 -
Hi Cookiewillow,
If this is the 1st time you've gone over limit (or the 1st time for a long while), phone 'em up and be really nice. Just say something like..
'Yeah I got my dates wrong and I really thought that money would have cleared before I hit my limit and just for this once, would you consider letting me off for the 39p?'
Tell them how good a customer you have been and remind them that you pay inerest on your o/d every month anyway. Then ask if they think it's worth 39p for the benefit of keeping you as a customer, because really, if they think that little of you, you might as well just clear your o/d and go elsewhere.
This EXACT aproach worked for me when I was charged £25 by A&L for being £1.12 over my limit for one day. Trouble is: since the unfair charges test case thing went to court I think the banks have a blanket policy of telling their staff to hold firm and refund nothing, pending the outcome.0
