O/S Daily Monday 22 October 2018
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Morning everyone
Hugs to those that want/need one, especially everyone with poorlies/carers/grieving x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
Still dark here, air cooler again this morning, although yesterday was a beautiful day - not a cloud in the sky for most and sun shining, and it got quite warm, forecast cooler for the coming days though. I do have a basket of washing ready to hang out, we'll see if it dries.
DH up and gone to work stupid early, DS1 now getting ready for work and DS2 still in his pit, will wake him as he's going for a run this morning, and then catching a lift to go to the gym.
Lunch yesterday was roast pork, roasties, mash, carrots, broc, cauli in cheese sauce, peas, swede (me only), yorkshires and gravy - was a lovely joint and menfolk were happy as the crackling was superb. Tonight will be egg, bacon, sausage, mushrooms, and beans.
We visited the parents yesterday morning then had lunch and chilled in the afternoon and watched the GP last night.
Back to work today, we'll see what today brings, hoping for a relatively busy day as it just flies then.
Keep safe and well x

Morning all
Seems cooler here this morning with a sharp wind will need to wear a coat to work today, its half term here this week so work will be busy my caf! is not for members of the public though but I bet I will be chasing them out all week ! The clients are very possessive of 'their' building !! it gets packed sometimes with not a spare seat in there, sometimes its making more money than the public caf! :j
The rest of the steak and Kidney pie tonight with roasties cauli and sprouts its all made and in the fridge, just got to heat it through and pick out the kidney to give to OH !!
Poppy I do understand your situation and have to say my view on euthanasia matches yours, Ive seen my dad suffer through an illness which made him bed bound and needing help to do everything, he would have hated it and would much rather of slipped away in a quiet room somewhere, gentle hugs to you my lovely xx
TA I hope you are coping xx
Have good days all xx0 -
[STRIKE]Middle of the night[/STRIKE] Morning
Posting from a grim Manchester car park having had to arrive at 6.45 for a course a 9. Anyone who knows Manchester will feel my pain as one of the worst roads for traffic in Salford now has road works on and is doan to one lane. Left home at 5.55 to do 20 miles... I despair.
Anyway moan over I had a lovely weekend up in a very sunny if a bit chilli Glasgow. The Good Food Show was really good again. We ate our own weight in samples and next year I feel i will take Jackie O as it was all about gin:) Yesterday we went back to the show in the morning then headed for a lush afternoon tea in the afternoon. Shattered last night and of course didnt sleep so now feeling pretty grim.
Missed a call from Holly but she did send a message saying she was in a lot of pain as they cant use the same meds with her as they do with other people. Hoping to get a message from her today
Havent had time to read back yet may do that now hope everyone is well as possible0 -

It didn't rain yesterday so I spent most of the day in the garden. I've got rid of the plants in Fruit Corner. Plenty of weeds too! I need to dig right down to make sure I've got rid of all the roots, then I'm going to leave it til master tru has replaced two fence panels for me. He's going to fit this in between his own work jobs so I don't know when it'll happen, but I have been promised it'll be done by Christmas. When it's done, I'll fill the border with HM compost and leave it til spring. And I'll fence it off with bamboo canes and netting, Scampi will dig it all up otherwise
I've re-started the wormery properly. Mr tru had been chucking everything in and had filled it up. I didn't realise this til I went to check it a few days ago – the worms had left home and everything was a big slimy mess. I gave him a lecture (well, read out instructions from a website about composting, lol) and declared that I am now in charge of it. I emptied it out, cleaned it, put a fresh layer of stuff in and dug around the compost bin for worms. They're merrily moving about, enjoying the feast
Fireworks have started  Scampi is going nuts, as are quite a few other dogs in the area. Does anyone know if Adaptil is any good? I've read it's safe for other pets (I have a gecko and was worried in case it affected him) but takes a few days to start working so I've probably left it a bit late. I didn't want to use anything like that to be honest, but he's getting so stressed I need to do something.

Good Morning everybody :hello: - looks like a decent, but cool (13C) day ahead for us today. Hope so, because yesterday turned out quite wet, despite the forecast
.
nmlc - thanks for starting us off this morning. Love the sound of your Sunday Lunch - I'm another Roast Pork Crackling fan .
redruby - best of luck in work today.
Nelski - oooh an hour to drive 20mls via Salford - sounds horrendous . I've got the 'Liverpool Free From Food Fair' in two weeks, so will be like you 'well-stuffed with samples'. Last year there was a firm giving out samples of Gluten Free Beer - hic! Please say Hi to Holly when you speak to her again.
tru - I used to have a dog that was a 'nervous wreck' and she hated this time of year. We used to try to just make our home as cosy as possible, close the windows/curtains, turn the TV (or music) up and give her lots of cuddles with us on the sofa. On the other hand, the cat didn't give two hoots about fireworks etc - he'd quite happily go outdoors when they were going off.
Extra special ((((Healing Hugs)))) for all who are sick/worried/caring for others.
Just got a bit of Online Paperwork to do this morning and then get ready for my shift at the Charity Shop. Definitely, need to keep away from any other shops today .................... food stocks are good, but may make another batch of Leek & Potato Soup in the PC.
DD is taking DGS1 (Nathan) and DGD2 (Caitlin) to DisneyParis for Caitlin's birthday tomorrow, but Caitlin thinks they're going to Blackpool. I need to make sure that her birthday card gets to her later today with her Euros for spending.
Hope everybody has a great Oldstyle Day :j! - luv Ollie xxx0 -
Morning everyone,
From Friday's posts;
Snoozer - I have considered going down the route of Laura and Brian but I'm concious of the legal side of things, as Olliebeak says. So for that reason, I think I would go through a letting agent to make sure everything is above board.
On Sunday, this friend of mine, came to view the flat with his Mrs. She's a very nice women, quiet and reserved. They both really liked the flat and seemed happy with everything (costs, term, utilities etc). So much so that an hour after they left, I got a text to say they'll take it!! My thinking is that it's better the devil you know. I could rent it to a stranger and they're a nightmare, so at least this way I can keep tabs easier. I'll speak to my letting agent and get things put in motion today. That's one less headache. I just need to figure out where I am going!
I booked a hotel for my mum and I for this Friday in Manchester. We'll travel down straight from work and then go to as many viewings as possible on the Saturday. She's got a good eye for things like this and it's nice for her to feel involved in the process.
I've been to the gym this morning and after work I've got 2 games of football back to back. Poached eggs, bacon and sourdough for dinner.
Nelski - Aw don't tell me that!!! I'm looking at a flat in Salford Quays on Saturday!0 -
Morning ((((((((((hugs)))))))))) if you need one. Holly..... I am sorry you are in so much pain, I hope they find something to help you. As always thoughts with the TA's.
Very cold this morning, we have had quite a heavy frost, so no garden for OH this morning, he will have to find something else to do.
After an early lunch we went into Melton, couple of jobs done and then on to DD2's, the baby is really wee, lots of black hair, apart from complaining when Oma lifted her out of the pram she settled and slept on whilst I was holding her. We had tea and biscuits whilst we were there, left after an hour to come home.
As we had our main meal at lunch time it was ham sandwiches and the last of the jelly for tea.
I have the quilt in the washer, discovered yesterday there was a patch on it from when the coffee got spilt, so its getting a wash. Hope to get it dry on the line. The rest of the laundry will have to wait until there is a full load.
Egg and chips tonight for supper, need to find something for dessert.
I need to sort out the drawers in the freezer, everything got shoved in where there was a space last week when the other freezer went caput.
Poppy...... I share your view. I have told my husband and family that if I develop cancer I am not prepared to undergo any further treatment. I have lived my 3 score years and ten and will be quite happy to shuffle off as and when. It may be a selfish view but its my view.0 -
Morning all, bit of a rubbish sleep, too hot, too cold, covers off, covers on....
Made it into the shower today though even though the litany of side effects was doing their best to stop me....I wil be clean!!
Sat down with a cup of chocolate coffee[ no milk for normal tea, can't face big wide world yet] and will think about doing stuff...
Nelski, glad you had a good time, sounds fab, free samples of food? What could go wrong?nmlc, roast pork crackling sounds also fab. My ex MIL mde some for me once, she didn't like it, and had never made it, so I ate it, but thanks to her not knowing what she was doing, it was rock hard crackling, and I broke a tooth in half trying to eat it to be polite...tru, I'd like to be doing to some garden sorting too, have crocosmia to put out that I haven't yet and HM compost to move from the back to the front...Am itching to do stuff..Hope you're coping today Poppy. Hugs and stuff for thems that needs, sparkly silver wands will also jump on the bandwagon...Also, hope you're not so angry fuming now OL.....
Have a good Monday, hope it goes quick if you need it to.Non me fac calcitrare tuum culi0 -

oops sorry:o
Salford Quays is lovely though its where all the media crowd hang out
Sure you will find rat runs avoiding regent road then you can tell me lol0 -
Speky, you're being very wise. L&B live only a couple of miles from their flat so they don't have a problem getting there if need be.
Poppy, I hope things feel a bit better today.
Hester, I hope CHS is continuing to improve.
We went over to have lunch with Chris and Crystal yesterday, then had a quick trip to Ely to wander round in the sunshine. Not a lot else is happening. We watched Strictly but tbh I'm finding it a bit boring this year and I don't know why.
Another quiet day here, sorry for being so boring.
Hugs and thoughts to anyone else who needs one.0 -
