Manhole in tbe wrong place

Here's an old thread. Some people have five manholes, some have four, some have two. Seems to be standard practice.

Manholes are a necessity that allow your pipes that remove waste from your house to kept clear and working, saving you the inconvenience of the interior your house floating in excrement.
You may not like the look of them but they are a dreadfully important element of a house and the work to put them in is expensive - it isn't all pretty kitchens and bathrooms. No one that visits you will notice it and there will be various ways of disguising it with paving or plants.
You sound like a petulant child. We're building our very own house and it's accepted that the inspection chambers go where they go as dicatated by the drainage runs in the locality. There's one right outside the front door. It doesn't bother me in the slightest. I will deal with it because I am a grown up.Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

To be fair, we didn't know you were buying, or that it was a newbuild, because you didn't mention either of these things in your OP.busterkeye wrote: »I.care because i dont want them,.ive to put up with one because it was on the drawing but the other wasnt and still isnt! In answer to what your legal rights are, read your contract. That will tell you what they're meant to be building. It probably doesn't dictate exactly where the manholes go.0 -
Check the small print on the drawing and contract.busterkeye wrote: »I.care because i dont want them,.ive to put up with one because it was on the drawing but the other wasnt and still isnt!
If you don't find the words "indicative", "subject to change without notice", "should not be relied upon" (or similar to that effect) somewhere in the documentation then you should consider consulting a lawyer."In the future, everyone will be rich for 15 minutes"0 -
You can stand on the moanhole cover, it'll take your weight just fine.busterkeye wrote: »Where do i stand on this matter?
I don't think you do. Think about the sewer that the moanhole gives access to. Move the moanhole, and the sewer needs moving.Im wanting it moving and yes i do know what work it will take to do this0 -
OK another disadvantage of buying a new house apart from the immediate drop in value as soon as you move in is the fact that you can't see where the moanholes are likely to be when the house is built. If it is important to you where moanholes are placed then you should have bought an older house so that you could check first.
As you didn't buy an older house where you could see the moanholes you are going to have to put up with the moanholes being covered where they are now.0 -

I've been re-building my drainage system over the past few years, but despite having choices, I've still ended up with two inspection chambers where I'd prefer them not to be. One isn't where I put it on the plans submitted, because a practical situation arose that forced me to make changes.
You say you understand drainage, but the reality is that building regulations and physical factors influence where they will go to a greater extent than aesthetics.0 -
Thanks for that mate
Im the first on the run if the foul waste so the inspection chamber didnt need to go where it is now. To be fair i was wanting to know if anyone knows where i stand on this matter but all i attracted was wannabe comics but thanks for your reply daveThe message you have entered is too short.
