free phone and line rental from themobs.com - offer ends today

Hello all,

Don't know how useful this will be. I've just ordered a free phone and free line rental for a year from https://www.themobs.com. It's an orange deal with 1,000 free off-peak minutes. They charged me £2.50 'admin' fee and the 'free' insurance kicks in at £4.99 a month after three months. Will take the phone anyway and cancel the insurance with three months notice. Have also taken 120 texts at £4. Will see how it pans out and keep you posted.

They go bankrupt and you lose over £200.

I think maybe we should have a trusted cashback sites list for people to refer to! Let me start one off:

    CPW
    Phones4u
    Dialaphone
    E2save
    OSPS
    Thelink

Personally I wouldn't touch anything else with a BARGE POLE. Even if they have paid out in the past & have many happy customers there is no saying they won't go bankrupt tomorrow and bang goes your £200-300+
  • Hi Darren,

Why would I lose £200? It's not a cashback deal. don't think the minutes would be x network. I googled 'themobs' and didn't get any nasty notes about them. I set up my payment from an account with no cash in it, apart from enough to cover the £2.50 admin fee.

Interested to know your answer, as I certainly don't want to be out of pocket. Thanks!
  • just checked, the minutes are x network wtih orange. do check for yourselves though. I'd hate to be passing on a scam of some sort.

will probably be a nightmare trying to cancel the insurance, as i dont see how they can offer this deal on no payments!!! But thats just my view. Seems too good to be true! i would go for it if i could remove the free insurace on the first screen :)

I know through Dial-a-phone you get the same insurance offer - 3 months free and set up a separate direct debit for it. That makes it very easy to cancel but this may be different.

If it's compulsory to continue after the 3 months they'd have to make It plain before you press the final confirmation otherwise it would be unenforceable.

I've read the terms & conditions and don't see any problem but then I'm not a lawyer :)

Yeah true, but having read other thread on companies providing this extra insurance...some people (not with this company) have reported that they can never get in touch with the company by phone to speak to someone to cancel the insurance after the three months. So they have no way of ending the insurance contract. But this may not be the case with this company...i was merely trying to come up with a reason in my own mind as to why they would give a free phone with free line rental and a whole load of free minutes??

I'm sorry to disappoint but orange don't just do deals where you get charged no line rental & you get a free phone - it will be cashback but they are just not clearly showing this - very dodgy in my opinion!

Also take a closer look and the free line rental has a mystery * next to it with no further info., plus the free line rental is a 'free gift' - i.e. cashback
