Yes there is, but they're notoriously difficult to prove.

    Got it now.

I am glad I dont ever want "top of the range" alloys on my car as by the sounds of it they crack all too often.

Thanks again for the helpful replies.

To bring this up to date, I've done a bit of homework, which perhaps I should have done before posting on this forum. It certainly appears that loss of bargain can indeed arise following breach of contract.

I negotiated a reduction in price for the car; original alloys plus decent tyres obtained from elsewhere.

You misunderstood what loss of bargain is. An example of loss of bargain would be say something that is worth £1000 being sold for £500, you say you're going to buy it, pay a deposit then the vendor changes their mind.

That isn't what happened to you. What happened to you is you bought a vehicle in a certain condition with certain features and for whatever reason between agreeing the sale and collecting it some of those features changed, being detrimental to the value and making the item no longer as described which is more a contractual breach - you're paying for X and you're getting x instead. You are then entitled to either a refund or to negotiate a different price if you wish to continue with the purchase.
