parking in disabled space

Hi
looking for some advice. I attended hospital today with my daughter for an appointment. I had my mum with me who broke her ankle last week and is in a cast and using a wheelchair. The normal car park did not appear to have any spaces so I used the disabled car park and put a note on dashboard stating I was attending appointment and had person with broken ankle who needed wheelchair. I went into hospital and four mins later they gave me a ticket. There were literally tons of spaces around us and I honestly didn't think it would be a problem as my mum genuinely couldn't walk. The ticket is a parking charge notice issued my PEA. Should i pay it or should i dispute it? Cant really afford the £40 charge and honestly didn't think I would be charged. HELP

those spaces are provided by law for people who qualify under the Equality Act 2010 and the signage would have said a blue badge needs to be displayed , so they are quite right in issuing the pcn, nobody in the vehicle was a blue badge holder and the EA2010 may not apply in this sad case
I accept what you say and why it was done, but most hospitals have a dropping off area which is what should have been done and then the able bodied driver goes back out and moves the vehicle to a parking spot, meaning that the disabled bay is not used
most dropping off bays are for 20 minutes at hospitals in my area
please read the NEWBIES FAQ sticky thread near the top of this forum if you are appealing it
putting a note on the vehicle dashboard wont help as its not legally binding0 -
Have you asked PALS (Patient Advice and Liaison Service) at the hospital to fix this?0
-
No haven't asked as my mum wasn't actually there for an appointment just my daughter. have read several posts on internet that say to just ignore these charges so don't know what to do! feel so annoyed as I have never done this before.0

The advice to ignore has not been given here since the law changed in 2012. You are looking at old, out of date, and useless information.
Please read the Sticky thread for NEWBIES, then follow the advice for keepers in NI in parallel with a complaint to PALS.
You should edit your post to remove information about who did what. Only ever refer to The Driver and The Keeper, who are two different people.

Please note, we are not a legal advice forum. I personally don't get involved in critiquing court case Defences/Witness Statements, so unable to help on that front. Please don't ask. .

I sent an email explaining the situation and got a reply back to say I had to forward my name address etc. Should I just pay the fine and accept defeat??0

Oh gawd, now you tell us this was in NI!
The advice in the NEWBIES for NI is to ignore. You may be lucky and might have go way with this if you didn't provide a name and address.
Do not contact them again unless you get real court papers!

Thanks Fruity. This is enough of an uphill battle to advise correctly without having vital information exposed early enough.
Jeez, we could have been expending so much forum energy on this for months ahead without getting that one crucial bit of information.its PEA in northern ireland. sorry didn't realise, I thought you knew it was NI as you mentioned it in your post. I did read through the newbies post but got a bit confused. so you are saying I should just ignore? I thought you said advise was not to ignore. Can they not get my address etc from dvla and contact me that way?0
