Royal Mail Redirection

Apologies if this sounds like a silly question but I'm trying to work out the best way to redirect my mail.
I move out of my rented place soon, and I'm crashing with family for a couple of weeks before I move into my new house but there's a gap of 4 days where I won't be in the new house and won't have keys to the old house anymore.
Initially I was going to be staying with family for a lot longer so planned on getting mail redirected there but given it's for less than a week there's no point doing that for the 3 months.
I don't trust the LA one bit to give me any mail that's gone to the old house.
Would I be able to do a redirection to the new house, and ask RM to hold the mail until I'm actually in?

Why not ring royal mail and ask them?
Alternatively, get mail redirected to family house and each one you get, ring the person who sent it and get the address changed and after 3 months is up all your mail should be going to your new home anywaySam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:
People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

I spoke to RM on live chat, and they weren't helpful at all so I thought I'd ask here if anyone has been in a similar position and what they did?0

Can't you just redirect to the new house, and let the post 'pile-up' there for those 4 days?
If the new house is empty, just check that's ok with the landlord/letting agent.
Or if the new house will be occupied during those 4 days, just tell the occupiers to leave your post by the front door when they leave (or go along and collect it from them each day).0 -
The new house is occupied and I thought it would be a bit cheeky getting it redirected before completion?0

I had a 3 day gap between moving out and moving out (stayed at parents in between). I just redirected to the new house from the day we moved out the old one, didn't even ask the sellers to keep it, they just left any post in a pile when they left. Any reasonable person would do the same (remember not all people are reasonable!)Excuse any mis-spelt replies, there's probably a cat sat on the keyboard0

ceh209 thank you, I didn't know if it was ok to just redirect it before I'd completed.
I asked RM if they would apply Keepsafe to the new house until after I move in but they wouldn't give a straight answer0 -
We didn't redirect our mail, but my OH booked the broadband and Sky installation before we'd completed so he could ensure we had it within a week of moving in. I work from home 2 days a week so we needed broadband set up as quickly as possible.
I messaged our seller to say he'd jumped the gun a bit and to apologise in case any post for us arrived before we completed. They were lovely about it and just left the few bits on the kitchen counter.
May be worth having a chat with your seller, and see if they would be ok to pop any post for you on the side until completion. If they say no, then redirect to family, collect it periodically and contact the sender to give them your new address.0 -
Just send to new house. They'll have a pile of stuff for you anyway - I've always got to a new house and found the insurance, utilities, etc have already sent stuff with my new address on before I'm in.2024 wins: *must start comping again!*0

Yes,it should be no issue. speak to the redirection team0 -
Why not use the Keepsafe service at your old address until after you have moved? Collect it from Royal Mail, then when you move do the redirection to the new permanent address.0
