O/S Daily Friday 19th October 2018

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Morning everyone

Hugs to those that want/need one x

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x

Still dark here, air is cool but yesterday we did get some lovely sunshine, chill in the air though, forecast is the same for the coming days. Not warm enough to get washing dry on the line.

DH and DS2 up and gone to work stupid early, DS1 now getting ready also.

Dinner last night was pork loins, mash, veg and gravy. Tonight will be breaded chicken portions, chips/jacket potato and beans/veg, fish and veg for me.

I wasn't as productive yesterday as I wanted to be as I got to town visited bank and building society, just come out of SM and had missed call from dad, mum not well and dad had appointment to sort out some business and couldn't leave mum on her own. So spent some of the day with her, she still wasn't well but was very confused and whilst I was there (Dad had left by this point) she was insistent that she hadn't had her meds, so took them again and for me to speak to dad on his return to find she'd already had them ..... I'm visiting our Docs today to see if we can get meds already in dossett (SP?) boxes so hopefully that would help.

Today I'll be food shopping first thing, home to tackle the ironing, then I have a dentist appointment. So a few jobs to tackle today.

Keep safe and well x

  • Good morning, and thank you NMLC. Cold and frosty here, but may turn out like yesterday, brilliant sunshine with a light breeze.

Yesterday went as planned - housework, and a bit of sewing, Dh struggled on in the bathroom replacing sealant, It's terrible stuff, I hadn't realised it was so sticky. I tried to help him smooth it along behind the bath taps as I have a smaller hand, it looks ok,

Nothing much planned today, no girls night in tonight as the "girls"are both away.

Thinking of Holly, and Hester's OH, also Ta, and anyone else who is sad or poorly.

    Take care folks.

    Fab news snoozer :D

The whole HMRC thing was so frustrating. They got it wrong, that's OK, these things happen sometimes. It's when they ignore you and carry on regardless, then refuse to admit their mistake that makes me so angry. I wonder how many people would've given up and just paid to make it stop. Not me though, I'm far too stubborn for that :D I've kept all letters (mine and theirs) and notes on phone conversations, including dates and times of all calls – just in case.

It's mr tru's day off but he has a couple of things to do this morning so won't be back til 1pm-ish. I want to dig out the old raspberry plants and sort out that little corner of the garden, but I can't push the spade into the ground with my limpy leg :D Hopefully it won't rain this afternoon and he can do that for me. Once those plants are out, I can do the rest. As long as it's not too cold, otherwise I just might seize up :D Apart from that, I just want a lazy day.

    Hugs to you TA.
Glad the 'Rest' is open Gers, it'll make your journey so much easier.

Well, I'm back from my travels, Jersey is a lovely Island, very relaxing. We managed an afternoon by the pool on Thursday it was so warm. The water not so warm, it's outdoors and it's not heated at this time of year but I managed a rather refreshing dip all the same!

I must do some shopping today, the fridge is empty. Also must pay a visit to the allotment later although it's due to rain so probably wont do much.

Have a happy Friday, take care. XX

    Morning :)

OL Ill join you in the poor sleep group. truly hate my brain sometimes the idiotic stuff it pushes as vital thinking at 4am :(

rr no news I'm afraid but I suspect she's bed bound at the moment and there is literally no service at all on the ward. Will try ringing again today and hope its a different nurse this time, yesterdays was close to rude.

Another crazy day here today. Conference call at 9 then a rearranged call with my age UK friend. Was going to cancel last week as I'm away for the weekend but she was so low and told me she hadn't spoke to anyone since our last call:( broke my heart. if anyone can spare an hour once a week please consider befriending. Anyway after that i need to go to M+S for a train picnic. Not sure what yet but I suspect it wont be healthy.

Am really looking forward to being on the train and nothing to worry about for the weekend. Going to the good food show and I cant wait last year we had so much fun and loved all the tasting opportunities. Think the guest chef is Nadyia tomorrow who I can take or leave but we are booked so at least it will be a nice sit down for a while :)

Right off we go for another mad day . Enjoy your weekends all

Lovely to hear of the new baby and the pregnancy :j:j

Thinking of you TA, Hester, polly, taff and all dealing with health challenges ( sorry, brain fade with names, but I do read each post and send positive vibes to each one of you).

It's half term so no sewing group this morning, instead I'm meeting the two friends I normally see there for a cuppa at a nice garden centre. I'll probably not manage a swim today, as a result. I stuck to 15 mins in the water yesterday, I was a bit short of oomph.

There's plenty left of the pork and apple casserole for tonight, with some fab Savoy cabbage and broccoli from this week's veg box to go with it.

Have a good day, everyone. xxx

    Morning all.

This morning I’m heading into town to return the broken blanket and will have a little mooch around. I’ve got my flu jag too, I get a voucher from work so have decided to take that rather than wait for my own GP service.

    Thoughts to all our poorlies.

    Happy Friday to all.

Morning...Securicath did not come out, I made it very clear I didn't particularly want something else done which was a hazard, and it's not infected or anything, just red where the metal is, so yay. Was in a super bad mood after chemo though and was snappy with poor girl at pharmacy, meds weren't ready although they'd been asked for 3 hours previously, so will go and apologise and take biscuits today. Can't taste things already, back to the cuppa soup and bovril...
No plans for today, maybe a bit of painting depending on stamina and wobblyness, dishwashing [ CANNOT wait to have kitchen done-[probably about 18 months] to have dishwasher, I'm useless at dish washing, they alwasy come out dirty in some area, I'm just not very good at it, I'm much better at sewing/DIY/painting/gardening. well, anything else really :)

Funeral went mostly well for friend, but ended very badly when she got home, so will morally support a bit more today...

nmlc, good idea re the doessette boxes, worked for my ex-mil..SR - if it's silicone you were using you can get these little red square type things that have cut outs so you can get a neat edge. They're about 1.50 in BM. WD$) is good for getting silicone off your hands too. OL - hapy clean carpets, rest up some more! Camelot, glad you had a nie time and swam at this time of year! eeww!! super-tough! Nelski, shame about the sleep, have a fab weekend, train journeys usualy are for rubbish food though, part of the fun, and maybe a smal bottle of wine or G&T :) Thanks wee midgie, have fun in the garden center. If you're anything like me there'll be a few 'bargain' things to appropriate.....O|B, glad you had fun in town.

Have a good pre-weekend day, duvets and cuddles for poorly/needy, radiaoactive spider bites for go-getters :)

  • Morning everyone and happy Friday :)

Dark blue skies in Glasgow this morning.

Yesterday I spoke with my new boss for about an hour on the phone, just trying to tie up some lose ends. They're being very accommodating and flexible in my arrangements which is greatly appreciated. They've topped up my confidence that it was the right decision and we're collectively aiming for the 12th of November as my start date.

I had 2 friends of mine tell me they'd be interested in renting my flat. I told the costs to the 1st and it was too expensive and so said to number 2 and he said it was doable but will speak with this other half. The good news to this is it saves me £300 from the letting agents for their 'marketing fee'. The bad news is that whilst he's a friend and someone I've known for over 10 years, he's a bit volatile, unpredictable and sometimes even aggressive - but only when he's been out on the lash. Am I renting my flat to someone who might end up wrecking the place??? That being said, he owns his own business, has settled down with a nice woman and is absolutely fine and trustworthy when he's not had alcohol.

The other option of course is that I put it on the market and get someone who I don't know at all. Better the devil you know and all that?

After I got home from work last night, I made dinner and went to bed at 8.30pm with my alarm set for 5.30am. It's a bit of self experimentation, to see if I wake easier. I can confirm I was still tired when I work unfortunately, despite sleeping right through (sorry to rub it in to those who struggle)

Unsure what the plan is this evening and just realised I forgot to defrost my dinner. Damn!!!

snoozer - Congratulations to you too!! Fingers crossed.
camelot - Good to have you back. Hope you brought back some delicious cream or milk.
