lost food

hi all a bit help here pls
i got a new freezer from a the very big name co online i got it on my credit card and paid it straight off, for extra cover
anyway its lasted 6 weeks and decided to pack up, called the manufacturer on mon engineer came out today (thurs) and admited its a manufacturer fault and in his own words never seen this go so quick, the freezer was full of food , all wasted now aprox £150
the engineer took pics of all the food and said he will pass this over to his manager, ive looked on there website and says in the t&c that spoilt food will not be covered, but in 6 weeks from new and it packs up, im not sure if they are going to replace it or do a repair, ive been told he will get back in touch tomorrow, where do i stand now i cant buy any frozen food, ive lost a freezer full of food and ive only a tiny under the counter fridge

Genuine question but what are people putting in their freezers? I’ve got a fairly standard size freezer, it’s got a drawer full of meat, some ice cream, oven chips, a pile of batch cooking and some ice cubes. I don’t think it’s even got £50 of food in it and the meat could last me for another 2/3 weeks...

I know people who buy those huge meat packs direct from farmers or specialist butchers. Those can be very expensive as they will include enough meat to last months. I expect people who have posh dinner parties or only eat organic probably do have over £100 worth of stuff in their freezers.

A single joint of beef can cost £20. It would be so nice if you tried to help people rather than questioning every thing they say.

We've got a 2/3-size chest freezer, I'd say it's got about £100 of food in it - meat, pies, sausages, a variety of nuggets and fish fingers for the lad, frozen chips, puddings, ice cream, ice lollies ...

Anyway, as somebody else said, why does it matter? :D

Question is, can the OP claim the loss on their house insurance? I remember claiming after a lengthy power cut, and it was a simple matter of doing one specific shopping trip and then sending in the receipt.

You have no claim against the manufacturer (unless you bought directly from them, which it seems you didn't) other than whatever warranty terms they offer. Any claim you have is against the seller - have you tried approaching them?

As per others, if you have freezer food cover on your home insurance then that's probably the easiest way forward; if not then raise a claim against the seller for the spoiled food.

As I said it was simply a question. I try to get as much fresh as I can rather than freeze so I suppose my freezer has less in than most, it’s just every time a freezer breaks it’s never ‘!!!!!! I’ve lost a packet of choc ices’ it’s a full buffet spread ;)

In my house it is, clearly!I don't waste valuable ice cream space on anything else.

I agree with you on this, I have 4 freezers, one built in to our fridge freezer for our food, then two undercounter and one chest freezer for my dogs raw food and I could fill all four for £150. And like you said nobody ever has just the dregs lefts when they are due to go shopping, it always seems to be when the freezer is full of premium lobster. I'm seriously trying to think of what things I could buy that would cost that much yet still fit in the freezer, even a big joint of beef, while expensive also takes up a fair bit of space so there is much less you can fit in with it.
