Idiot! Don't you think they'll notice it's not being paid into the account
Agreed it's idiotic, but not for that reason - to the best of my knowledge there isn't anything that mandates salary (or anything) being paid into this account.

The real issue with lying (apart from ethical/moral considerations) is the risk of false declarations being visible when inconsistent data is passed to credit rating agencies and national databases, and once you have form for that you run the risk of ongoing issues with future applications....

The problem is people don't bother reading the small print that 'Nobody' has written.....

To prevent crime, to verify your identity and to recover debt, we will exchange information (both within the UK and, where appropriate, overseas) with other members of the HSBC Group, and, where appropriate, debt recovery agencies, fraud prevention agencies and other organisations including other lenders. If you provide false or inaccurate information, and fraud is identified, details will be passed to fraud prevention agencies. Please see section on “Fair processing notice for data sharing with fraud prevention agencies” for more information.
We and other organisations may also access and use this information to prevent fraud and money laundering, for example, when:
    * checking details on applications for credit and credit related or other facilities
As part of the processing of your personal data, decisions may be made by automated means. This means we may automatically decide that you pose a fraud or money laundering risk or if our processing reveals your behaviour to be consistent with that of known fraudsters or money launderers; or is inconsistent with your previous submissions....

It'll probably have taken over 2 months to get the account up and running anyway. You've dodged a bullet. Worst application procedure I've ever come across.
How's it going, AKA, Nutwatch? - 12 month spends to date = 2.60% of current retirement "pot" (as at end May 2025)
