Be aware that footage on a dashcam can be used against you

Are you referring to your own dashcam footage, or someone else's?

The police do not have the power to "grab" any photographs/video footage, without a court order.
  • I purchased a dash cam from 'The Range' for £15 and used a 32gb card i had from an old phone, really impressed with the quality for the price and it came with a nice long power cable that i ran along the trim of the roof down the pillars at the window and under the floor mats into the cigarette lighter. I had to use those mini little clear plastic suckers to keep the cord from coming out of the roof but they slip under and aren't noticeable at all. Took all of 10 mins.

Sorry but I'm afraid this is wrong. The police can seize anything on a premises that they believe is evidence of an offence being committed. What happens when they have to seize CCTV recordings, do you think they have to go and get "court orders" first, of course they don't.

So hubby has asked for a dash-cam for Christmas. We are a pair of old fogeys who know nothing about them, and are rubbish with anything techy..

Then why ask a motoring question in the Tecchie Forum..?

Where there may even already be a sticky for this very subject.

I live in Singapore for 6 months a year.

When I bought my last car two years ago I had the thinkware F750 fitted with it. Front and rear cams.

You can get a good idea about it if you spend 10 minutes watching this:

It has quite a few bells and whistle as do most dash cams these days, some I use some I turn off. No wires anywhere to be seen.

I don't use the parking mode as it drains the battery and I don't drive that much, but you can buy additional battery top up kits.

The recording is in one minute length front and back seperate and iirc an 8 Gb recording card lasts about one hour and then records over the top of previous recordings but a press of a button will keep a specific recording you want or if in an accident then 5 minutes before the bump up to the bump is kept for future use.

Not sure where you can get this camera fitted in UK but just google thinkware UK to find out.

Thinkware have updated the F750 with the F770 and now the F800 but what the updates entail I don't know because the F750 is excellent.
It's your money. Except if it's the governments.

£30 fitting charge is probably worth it. A previous post said they spent 2 hours fitting it ... they obviously value their time at less than £15 per hour. :)

They should value it higher. According to the Halfords web page I'm looking at, the fitting charge is £40. Not £30.

From £30 with an online voucher.

In relation to images, Chief Constable Andrew Trotter (Chair of ACPO Communication Advisory Group) has confirmed otherwise.
