forgot to pay for parking (APCOA)

A driver forgot to pay for a full day's parking (by mobile) in the morning, and only realised when they got back to the car 8 hours later. They tried calling APCOA but they had just closed. So the driver decided to pay for a day's parking, but by that point it was cheaper than they should have paid when they originally parked. Also the time of paying was obviously some 8 hours after the car was originally parked.
The carpark was Thatcham station and the driver does not know if there are cameras there or if a car park attendant might have checked whether there was valid parking. There is no option to "Late Pay" or "Auto Pay" at Thatcham station.
Should the driver contact APCOA and alert them to the fact that they parked without a ticket? Or should the driver sit tight and hope not to get a penalty notice?

Sit tight and hope.
If the worst happens and you receive a Parking Charge Notice...
Send the already written blue text template appeal found in post #1 of the NEWBIES FAQ sticky thread.
Send it unchanged - no additions or alterations necessary.
Send it as the keeper.0 -
nobody will be "fined" , only a court can "fine" you
APCOA may issue a penalty notice to the keeper, by post
the keeper is not liable, so the KEEPER appeals as keeper using the blue text template if the NTK comes in the post
after 6 months , the keeper is not liable and as only the TOC can actually issue a penalty notice and take the driver or owner to Magistrates Court, which never happens, then the keeper can rest easy
so wait and see0 -
So, not worth the driver hoping that APCOA staff are nice enough people to understand that the driver tried to call them to rectify the problem and at least paid for some of the parking, before driving away?
Not sure the driver will have enough motivation to do the whole appeal thing.0 -
the DRIVER should be doing nothing at all, especially not blabbing about who was driving, that would be fatal
its the KEEPER who would be appealing this as KEEPER once an NTK arrives in the post
the driver should sit on their hands and keep their mouth firmly shut0 -

I provide only my personal opinion, it is not a legal opinion, it is simply a personal one. I am not a lawyer.

You seem to think you are dealing with a reasonable company.
Have you seen what our Members of Parliament think about this industry?

APCOA are actually one of the easiest PPCs to beat.
You are lucky to have chosen them.
