O/S Daily Thursday 18th October 2018
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Morning everyone
Hester - hope CHS continues to improve, make sure you get rest, food and drink x
Hugs to those that want/need one, seems to be so many poorlies/people having a tough time at the mo x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
DH and DS2 up and gone to work stupid early, DS1 now getting ready for work.
Dinner last night was duck legs in sauce, mash and veg, tonight I'm not sure but will sort when I go out this morning. I'll be visiting the bank/building society, nail appointment this afternoon.
Will crack on with the jobs I need to get done. Now working on Saturday as they were short staffed.
Keep safe and well x
nmlc x
Just a quick edit I lost another 1.5lb at fat club - how on earth I did that I don't know as hadn't been particularly good although still not had any alcohol - so it could be down to that.

Good morning
Thank you for starting us off nmlc
Gentle hugs to all who want/ need them.
Especially thinking of the TA, her family and dear Holly hope all goes well with your op today
Hoping CHS is improving, take care of yourself HesterIf you walk at night no-one will see you cry.0 -
Morning

Hester I'm glad CHS was treated so quickly, fingers crossed for the scan today xx I hope you managed to get some rest during the night x
dumpling I hope you had a better day yesterday xx
Thinking of Holly I hope the op goes well xx
The past couple of days have been dry so I've mostly been in the garden. It's so good to be outside again, even though I can't lift the heavier stuff. Well I can lift it easily but my hip refuses to let me walk with itBeing outside – alone, absolutely NOT around other people! - puts me in a good mood and clears my head, so when I come back in I'm ready to work. Paperwork has been spreadsheeted and filed, I'm feeling very accomplished and efficient

I've also moved most of my yarn to the craft room (which is still being used as a dumping ground, only not quite so much now) so I feel a bit of progress has been made. Next thing is the big shelving unit – I think I'm going to have to dump the 45 million DVDs onto the bed to make point about that oneI WILL get my way about this.
Just realised I haven't done the HMRC saga update. It's finally been sorted. It's a bit long so I won't be offended if you don't bother to read this bitI wrote on 20th August to explain AGAIN that PAYE/NI wasn't owed, the employee left in March. I incuded a copy of the P45. That was ignored and two more reminders sent. I wrote again on 18th September and enclosed the previous letter I'd written. A few days later, there was an answerphone message saying please call us by 8pm tomorrow, regarding your letter dated 20th August. They'd ignored other contact, and left it for over a month to reply to that letter, not mentioning the one sent after that in September, then want you to ring them within 24 hours. Anyway, the woman was really nice (most are, to be fair, whoever was dealing with all this before is obviously a numpty) and pulled all the info up on her screen and said “Oh – you don't owe anything, I can see the P45 and all payments, you're all up to date. I'm cancelling everything else”. What annoyed me though was that she said they weren't bills, they were estimates. They weren't estimates, they say Statement of Liabilites at the top, have monthly dates and amounts with a total at the bottom, interest added and a bank giro slip attached with the info filled in. I'm sure an estimate wouldn't come with a letter that includes the words – and these are direct quotes from two separate letters they sent three weeks after I re-sent all the info in August - Your continuing failure to pay is a serious matter. Previously, we treated your lack of response as an oversight. Now though, if you don't pay the amount you owe, we'll assume that you've deliberately chosen not to pay. And – We can take legal action to force you to pay this amount. If you don't pay now, we can enforce debts by seizing your goods and selling them at public auction, as the law allows. Still, it's over and done with now.

Morning all
Feels slightly warmer here today off to work for me but I love Thursday client group :j Fridays are not so good very hard work so I dread them at the moment !
Chicken and chorizo tray bake for dinner tonight, its all made and in the fridge so just need to shove it in the oven tonight with some part baked baguettes, should be nice.
Need to have a tidy round tonight ready for the cleaner who comes tomorrow, OH laughs at me but I want her to clean not tidy things away !!
Thinking of Holly and hope all goes well today xx
HesterI hope CHS is ok and had a comfortable night xx0 -
Morning
Horrible nights sleep in fact calling it sleep is a misnomer I seem to have so much to worry about at the moment ....pointless i know but it doesn't stop it
Glad to read CHS has improved so much. Its so true what they say about catching it as quickly as possible. Hope the scan goes well today.
I didn't hear from Holly yesterday and the fact she wasn't here posting would suggest the op is going ahead. I will ring the ward later today to see how she is.
Got some of my list done yesterday but still lots left for today. Hoping my visitors are not the perfect old stylers or I will be in trouble. Cant believe I have left everything to the last available day I am such an expert procrastinator. Ironically one of the things i must do today is some prep for a time management course I am running on Monday whats that phrase about physicians healing themselves...mmm.
Hope everyone has as good a day as possible
Edited to add just heard from Holly she's going through with it :j She's not happy at all but least she's making the right decision0 -
Good morning, and it's a chilly one here, it's frosty. Yesterday was quite a nice day, fine, and dry.
Thinking of all the poorly people, Holly, and Hester's DH. Also TA and her family.
Yesterday was just an ordinary day, Dh is replacing some sealant in the bathroom, which looked pretty horrible, and I think he's going to re-grout some areas, I think he'll plod on with that today. Really, the whole lot needs gutting, but it'll have to wait till next year, unless a million pound cheque drops through the letter box any time soon.
I've got a some clothes alterations to do, which have been hanging around for a couple of
weeks, and some ironing.
DD called in yesterday, they've just bought a puppy, he's really lovely.
We always had a cat/cats, but when our last one went to the great cat basket in the sky, we decided not to have any more, much as we loved them. Must say life is easier without them. Because we'd had cats for the best part of 40 years, we just got used to the hairs and the down side of having animals, I don't miss that.
Anyway, I'm rambling on here, hope everyone has a good day, or as good as they can.
Take care folks.0 -
Morning all! Chemo day today, they're talking about taking out the securicath and leaving the line in my am, this should be interesting because as far as I can guess then, that means there;s nothing but the dressing holding it in and knowing how clumsy I am, I foresee something going wrong....
Friedns mothers funeral today, won't be able to go, will sned a message to bear up and not lose it with eevil family.
Skirt is nearly finished, still the wasitband and hem to do, did iron and tack it down and sew one side on, now it's the sew into the seam , a test of co-ordination and precision,, that should be ...interesting?Need to find next project now, not sure what I want to make next.
Hope the OP goes well Holly.nmlc, sorry you have to work Saturday...good luck with the continuiing clean nelski, bella, hope you'e ok after a fully days shopping and the meds are sorted for your OH. Poppy, hope you'e ok too. SR, also have to reseal part of the shower, I bet my bathroom looks worse than yours, a blind man with a hammer did most of it I think.OB, did you get your decs? Hester, hope CHS is better.
Have a good Thursday if you can, sanatogen for those that need a perk up, or something stronger if permittedNon me fac calcitrare tuum culi0 -
Good Morning, everybody :hello: - looks liked another beautiful, but cool, day ahead for us
. The Beeb are showing a whole line of yellow suns and 13C.
nmlc - thanks for starting us off for the day :T. Have a good day in work - not sure if 'extra hours' is good or bad for you, but I know that I wouldn't like to have to work Saturdays if I didn't really have to.
silver-oldie - Good Morning
Organza Lace - hope everybody has a better 'commute' today than yesterday.
tru - what a palaver over the HMRC ! I had similar with them about 12mths after I retired. I KNEW that I didn't owe anything, but they continued to send the nasty letters. After ringing for the third time, I ended in tears talking to a lovely lady who went through everything, agreed with me, sorted it all within a few minutes ........................... and never another word from them since :j.
redruby - have a good day in work. Your evening meal sounds .
Nelski - thanks for the update on Holly. I'm not surprised that you're having sleep issues ! You're obviously very close to Holly and trying to keep her feeling safe/secure (not only with her treatment, but also with her MH), you've got your visitors coming (worrying about making your home 'welcoming' for them) AND coping with a demanding job .................. all at the same time. Slow down - and breathe - dear lady .
ScarletRibbons - lovely to hear that your OH is getting on with some diy - wish my OH was the type to do that. I drag my DS's (sometimes DD) in for anything that I need to be done
. Enjoy your sewing - I always find that kind of thing very therapeutic
.
-taff - hope all goes with with the chemo today and that all goes well with the line/dressing. Good luck with your sewing project.
Hester - sorry to hear about CHS and hoping that all goes well for him at the hospital.
((((Healing Hugs)))) for all who need them - CHS, TA, Holly and all others whose names I can't quite recall at the moment.
Another day of 'Nathan minding' ahead for me today - have to admit that he was very good yesterday. Kept himself busy and 'out of problem behaviour' - in fact, I even dozed off in the chair .................... not much use as a 'watch dog' am I!
Pork Steak with Salad for us this evening and OH can have Oven Chips with his.
Take care everybody and have a good Oldstyle Day  - Ollie xx0 -
Good morning all.
There's a very low band of mist right across the sea and land, it looks beautiful.
Yesterday I scanned a load of paperwork into the laptop and then burnt all the hard copies outside. My new chair arrived in good time. :j. It's certainly smaller than I imagined even though it's so comfortable. The only downside is the back of it isn't very high so nowhere to rest my head back. :rotfl:
The job I have for 1.5 days a month (or it could be 2.5 days, must check) sent me a little laptop. It took three phone calls to get the VPN set up and the network mapped properly. All done now and stable, I hope.
I'm off to Glasgow this morning. I'll collect the new electric blanket for DM on the way. Not looking forward to the convoy bit.
Thoughts to HH's CHS - hope he's soon on the mend. Thoughts to Holly too for her op. And also the TA family.
Happy Thursday to everyone.0 -
Safe drive into Glasgow, Gers and please give a  to the Erskine Bridge for me
.
It'll probably sound silly to you, but that bridge means 'the beginning of my holiday' every year. As we cross it, leaving Glasgow behind, it means that the worst part of our journey is over and that The Highlands will soon be in view heading towards Loch Lomond :T.0 -
Morning (((((((((( hugs)))))))))) if you need one. TA's, Holly and Hester and CHS in my thoughts especially today.
Our latest Great grand daughter arrived a week early, just know that she is here, no more at the moment, DD2 sent a message to say she had arrived.
The freezer saga continues, the fan would not switch off, thermostat has gone, so has the freezer. Friend came yesterday afternoon and took it away. The chap at the hospice does something with them, not sure what. I have decided that as we will not be growing so much next year my fridge freezer is going to have to cope.
No idea what's for supper tonight, will think of something.........
Hester so pleased that CHS was able to have the clot buster and there does not appear to be any residual damage, hope his recovery goes well. Give him our regards when you see him.0
