Paying for things as a group - any ideas?

Hi all,
I was just wondering if anybody has any tools/app recommendations that they use to pay for things when travelling in a group?
I always find it is such a faff splitting costs or one person covering the bill and then getting them to pay you back (I must confess that I tend to forget when I need to re-pay somebody!). Has anybody else had similar issues and if so, anything you'd recommend using to solve this problem?
Thanks

Well, a kitty is one option.
I find that works if there's not one (or more) person (s) who will take advantage by having steak when everyone else has ordered a basic pasta dish.
Have you discussed it with your fellow travellers?0 -
It's going to get complicated having two threads asking the same thing....

My honest opinion - don’t do it. There’s always someone drinking double vodkas, eating steak or three course meals. Better having lower notes before you go or just tell the server when you sit down you want separate bills. Most places will do it if you ask:T:T  :beer::beer: to the lil one
