Trouble with getting friends to pay you back?

Hi all,
I was just wondering if anybody else ever has any trouble with getting friends to pay them back after covering a bill for them?
How big a problem is this for you and are there any tools out there that anybody would be able to recommend that could help me with this?
I've been having this issue a lot and waiting/chasing people to pay me back has often left me out of pocket for quite a bit of money.
Look forward to hearing about any of your experiences with this

Friends hubby has had this problem where he's had to foot the bill for tickets. Worst part is, one of his friends leaves it until the event before he finally coughs up. Only solution is to collect money before booking - if you don't know exact price then round it up, you can always pay back if a bit over. Please do not quote spam as this enables it to 'live on' once the spam post is removed.

But for some strange reason I have a feeling someone will be along very soon telling us about the latest app they have discovered....."In the future, everyone will be rich for 15 minutes"0 -
If they dont pay you back then they're not a real friend & your better off getting shot of them. I'll never understand the mentality of people who dont pay back mates & make every excuse under the sun why they cant pay.0

Once had a weekend in Newcastle with friends and paid for everything.
They never paid us back.

When you say "covering a bill for them", do you mean that they have money in the bank but not on them at the time the bill is presented? In which case, get them to pay you via their banking app while you are with them. If they have no money in the bank, then it's a long term loan/gift and you just have to keep asking them to pay, no app will help. The comments I post are my personal opinion. While I try to check everything is correct before posting, I can and do make mistakes, so always try to check official information sources before relying on my posts.0

Same thought occurred to me:

strange problem
mention of app
Has anyone else ever had that problem where people want to get information out of you for commercial gain, but don't want to pay you and are less than candid in their approach?
I wish there was an app for spotting that."In the future, everyone will be rich for 15 minutes"0 -
I adopt the '3 strikes and you're out' rule.
First occasion - meh ok. I'll forgive you.
Second occasion - come on now. It's not fair.
Third occasion - give over, give me my money.
Once I've got my money back then I cut my ties with them - can't be friends with anyone who lacks basic manners and common sense.
So far this has happened once.:grouphug:Official MSE canny forumite and HUKD VIP badge member

Yep I mean not at the time that it’s presented or alternatively just when one person pays out of convenience0

I basically don't lend money to people that I would care about not getting back - £5-10 here and there sort of thing. Personally I have a few friends that I would never lend money to, as I know their track record with repaying it - if possible, I try to get cash upfront if I can.
Nothing you can do short of constantly harassing them but if they don't want to give it back there isn't much you can do short of taking them to court... which might not end as well as you hope I feel.0
